Nope, not true. The sole purpose of the differential is to allow different rotational speeds between each wheel. That is the differentials job. No harm can be done by different diameter tires on the rear.

this just happened to me...wow...i just paid 150 dollars to have my tires rotated, specifically telling them ONLY to change the oil and top off the fluids...____(with you own profanity) the lexus dealerships...last time i go back to there...
