Exclamation NEED your OPINION !!! (IS 350)

I currently own a G35 coupe (6 spd manual), and am shopping for a new car...
either a 2008 G37S (6 spd manual) OR a 2008 IS 350 (sport package).

I wanted to know:
1) Have any of you gone from a G35 (manual) to an IS 350, and if so, how
do you like the IS 350 in comparison ?

AND,

2) How is the automanual shifting on the IS 350 ? (i.e. using paddles, is there
any hesitation upon shifting gears...delay or other annoying quirks ?? )

Thank you

p.s. positive feedback from you will have me going for a test drive for the IS 350

I heard the paddle shifters in the IS suxors lol....but....the IS350 is faster than the G37.

From what I know....and correct me if im wrong. The new G37 is practically the same speed as the G35. 30 more horses but the G37 is heavier thus cancelling out the extra 30 ponies. (marketing strategy?)

Definitely. Test drive all the cars you are considering buying. And dont make up your mind until you test drive them all. Because sometimes you just test drive the first car....and believe that you're in love with it (of course you are because its a new car lol).....but be patient and test drive them all so you have something to compare to, that will help make the best decision with little or no regrets..

Remember, its going to be YOU who is doing the driving not us.

well put richie , To add i wanted to say that if they put the 7 speed auto in the g37 that could/should make it faster then the is350... assuming on the gear ratios.

Thanks Sebs

....the reason for me saying test drive all the cars is......if you decided on the first car you test..........then there is always that "what if?...".....

i dont know if you were even considering the 09 IS's but they should becoming around the corner soon, unless you were trying to get deal on a new 08. but the refresh 09's include; new grill, wheels, and other random things, that will change the look of the IS a tad.

Forgot to mention i plan on importing a SLIGHTLY used (max. 7000 miles) IS 350 from the U.S. into Canada. A friend of mine is a wholesaler with access to U.S. auctions databases, so i will save some money... even after all paperwork and duty etc. is done (min. $5000 saved)

But thanks for the info regarding the 2009 model upgrades

The G35 and IS350 perform almost identically speedwise.... the IS350 gets significantly better mileage though.

I'll also say the auto on the IS350 is so good that I virtually never touch the manual shifters, they're mostly pointless with this good an auto.

It's not the 1950s anymore, the manual clutch is a dinosaur and will be extinct before a whole lot longer

i find the paddleshifters work fine on the twisties/transbraking going down hill, only a noob would use the paddleshifters for off the line 1/4mi type stuff

How is that completely wrong info when it's 100% correct?

another thing you could compare are the back seats. i dont know if you have alot of back seat traffic kids or things along that nature buti know my friends g35 back seat is way more comfortable to sit in than the ISx50's back seat although we do have 4 doors i feel its just a novelty item, lol. not to say the ISx50's rear seats arent comfortable but the G's are more comfortable to sit, just a pita to get in and out of.

the g is definately fun to drive, but imo its not as comfy and refined as the lex for a daily driver.

For the record, from the Road and Track 350/G35 comparo on 2007 model cars-

IS350
0-60 4.9 seconds
1/4 mile 13.5 seconds

G35
0-60 5.4 seconds
1/4 mile 13.9 seconds

The IS actually wins here, but it's fairly close. If you check a different car magazine you get different numbers. Lexus themsleves only claim 5.3 for the IS350 which is so close to 5.4 as to be virtually identical... But they're always pretty close to each other, which is what I said.

The EPA says-

2007 IS350 gets 21/28 for mileage
2007 G35 gets 17/25 for mileage.

Paddle shifters are useless for performance. But fun.

Definitely drive both.
