Shipping my Car via open trailer: Some ways to protect it?
Hey everyone, i'm in the process of moving from NY to Florida, and have decided that after looking at all my options on getting my car down, the best way is to ship it. I just finished driving down my dads car, and don't feel like making the run again =p.. so i'm going to ship it through a company, and have started getting price quotes, and so far my lowest is 520 and my highest is 750.
can anyone recommend a good shipping company that is reliable?
and what are some ways that i can make sure i dont get any scratches or anything from the ride? i talked to a friend who used to own a detailing shop, and he said to put a thick coat of wax on, and just leave it on rather than wiping it clean, and then once at the destination, wash it with a diluted dawn soap, and then rewax.. does anyone think this is a good idea?
Also i was thinking i could put "camo" on it (i think thast what its called) where i use painters tape to tape down sheets of packing paper/garbage bags, and cover the car?) think this would work?
thanks alot

Depending on where they put it on the trailer I would tape what is exposed to wind. The areas that are not exposed to wind I would use this stuff http://www.duplicolor.com/products/shield.html
Check in the cost of insurance. Might be worth it because they check over the entire car for dents and scratches.
True story a acquaintance had a 67 GTO shipped from st louis to cali. There was a 65 vette that was leaking tranny fluid and leaked all on to his hood and splatter every where. Long story short he got his GTO repainted because it ruined a show car.

I picked up my car from NC and drove to DC with a ton of safe seal painters tape. It worked like a charm. When i went to take the tape off i saw how many bugs, insects, small beavers had been splattered all over my front bumper and side view mirrors. I pulled the tape off and everything came off with it, no residue or anything.
I sometimes feel like putting that tape on for my daily commute and just changing it out every few days lol.

I can recommend www.dasautoshippers.com. I've actually shipped my civic from CA to NJ with them and had no problems at all.
