if the isf tranny characteristics were available on the is250/350 I would be a happier camper

You should have the same control of exactly what gear you're in at all times, and that control will be exercisable considerably faster than with a clutch pedal.
Eventho IS-F auto in Sports mode is pretty close its not the same. You feel more control of the car with the 3rd pedal. Give it a try and you will understand what im talking about.

Give what a try?

I've driven plenty of manuals... I find the 3rd pedal nothing but annoying.

What control does an nearly insta-shifting auto that holds any gear lack that the manual provides?

If anything you can shift to the right gear faster and easier on the auto so that'd be more control.

I suppose you can't slip the clutch, but that's got pretty limited use anymore.
