Smile A day at the beach (pic)

Weather was perfect. Biked from Malibu to the end in Venice and back. *sore*
My concern was not being able to fit the bike in the trunk, but it worked well once I got both wheels off. Forgot how easy it is to disconnect everything!

Heck yeah, but only after taking off both wheels. It all goes in sideways with little room to spare on each end. Then stack both tires ontop the bike and there you have it.
I've always had a car with folding rear seats, so I've never had to deal with taking off the chain and opening up the brakes to release the wheels. Only took a few minutes.
About the only thing I'd do different next time is have some wetnaps handy to get the grease off my fingers. Don't want to mare the steering wheel finish.

Do you protect the trunk with anything? I've been interested in trying to fit mine back there, but never really daring to try it. I have a 51cm Trek roadbike.

What I have is a large beach blanket I keep in my trunk for emergencies. I drape it over the threshhold of the trunk so nothing gets scraped or marred while lifting the bike over. Works fine. I large towel would do the same thing.
I'm going to try to take a shot of it all later today, as I haven't taken my bike out yet.
