@ Gernby:

I get the same ~2 mpg difference no matter which pump I use if I calculate it manually and then compare it to the trip computer. It's always less, and usually by about 2 mpg. Regardless, I'm pleased with my mileage and was not expecting any better from a v6 (even a small displacement one).

@ronhappy

I commute in 70mph steady cruise 85-90% of the time. I have a 43 mile commute each day (one way), of which I have a total of maybe 7 stoplights in a 6 mile stretch, most of which are green because I drive home at night on the major road in my neighborhood.

I don't do any of the hypermiling craziness, but I have a very light foot - I only go over 4K rpm 3-5 times per tank and then only for about 5-10 seconds.

I really, really wish I bought a IS350 instead...

*sigh*

But I assume that the IS350 doesn't get such good mpg on city.

I copied this thread from another forum, and when i read this it makes me feel better owning a 250

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IS250RWD loaner for the day

I am sure this has been covered before but a quick search of IS250 vs. IS350 didn't bring up the type of thread I was looking for.

Whilst my IS350 is at the dealer today for its 10K service (less oil and filter which I do myself) and the brake pad TSB, I was given a '08 IS250 RWD. I have test driven the IS250 before, but now with many miles behind the wheel of the 350 I have a better feel for my commute in comparison.

For my regular 100% city commute I noticed almost no difference at all between the two cars. I do not drag race away from stoplights in my 350 (My total average MPG in my 350 is 23.8MPG lifetime), so the lesser power only showed itself once when I wanted to merge into another lane and needed a bit of gas to get where I wanted to be.

One item did, however, stand out:

Steering took much more effort. I read a thread over at CL that said for the '08s (both trims) had the power assist reduced to "improve handling feel" (not my words, just passing along what I read).

I got the IS350 because I wanted that extra power for my weekends, and other 'fun' drive time that I do, but for my daily commute the differences were almost non-existant.

I'm only averaging 17mpg because I drive mostly in local, plus I live up on a hill, need to drive 5 miles of inclining road a day, mostly "more than spirited" driving up the hill. The gas mileage in local and on the freeway is like night and day.

So, can the IS350 get pretty impressive mileage? I think so -

Those computed speeds on the spreadsheet don't show that I spent a lot of time at 80 mph, and got dramatically slowed by road construction along the route. There were times I was going 45 for 5 - 10 miles at a time. As you can see, my indicated mileage was less than my actual mileage, so I'm pretty pleased with the indication on the dash being lower on average than actual.

But, now that I commute every day, I get ~23 mpg. While the 350 was in the shop getting the TSIB cam sprockets (for the second time), they gave me an ES350 loaner. That thing got incredible mileage for a heavy car - I saw 29.0 mpg on the first tank. I had no idea it could do so well without being babied.

Every tank I fill up, I tell myself I'm going to take it easy and see what kind of mileage I can get. Unfortunately, it never seems to work out for the whole tank, so I'll drop from 26 mpg at a half tank (being good) to 22.5 by the end of the tank (driving with a lot less patience.)

Gas mileage be be damned, I need more power!

Unfortunately, I'll never see those numbers. I have a heavy foot, and living in LA doesn't help. I am getting about 21-22 mpg.

the 377.4 miles on the trip was reset on the last fill up. I had 30 miles left on the "Distance until empty" gauge.....so the 409 miles on the tank is very accurate.

I drive 35 miles each way to work every day. 25 miles highway, 10 miles back roads. I do about 70MPH on the highway, and 30-45MPH on the back roads.

I love having the option of getting good gas mileage or using all 306HP

Any other 350 owners getting this kind of mileage?

The best range I have had on my IS350 was 444...this one was 440 when I took the pic last week:

(Sorry...Cell Phone pic)
