I do use the digital read out to gauge my mpg, but it is off by 2 mpg, give or take, very often. I find that it depends if I start off very high, around 29 mpg, then drive a bit harder, it'll dip slowly, whereas if you start low, around 22 mpg, and drive easy, it'll raise to around 26-27 mpg, but in the end, get approximately the same miles per tank. But in the end, your total miles between fill-ups is the best gauge. I've gone as low as 320 miles per tank (about 20 mpg), to now 420 miles (about 26 mpg) per tank. I fill my tank and do not top it off, and use those gallons to calculate my mpg. I typically get 16 gallons when I fill up. The most I have ever filled was 16.5 gallons , meaning I have about a gallon left. The most miles I have ever gotten out of a tank was 445 miles, about 27 mpg.

I mostly drive highway now for work, 70-80 miles a day, driving anywhere between 65/70 to 70/75 mph.

I find at times, driving quick in traffic while keeping it on ECT Power, keeps the mpg close to driving normal and just cruising. Power mode is good for rapid acceleration/deceleration, and in terms of mpg, will keep it close to cruising at nominal speeds. Accelerating at high gears is inefficient. Mpg is a trade-off between good miles and good acceleration.

you're either doing something very very wrong, or something is very wrong with your car.

(air filter, spark plugs, something...)

I've never gotten less than 16-18 out of a tank and that was all really bad city driving... my lifetime average is more like 23 or 24 I think.

The computer in the car says "Tank Average 22.4". But when I calculate it by using the odometer reading and number of gallons to fill up the tank I get 20.96 mpg. This is the second tank of gas for a new 2011 IS 250 with the upgraded 18" wheels...
