Default Speedometer Rattle?

06 Lexus IS250 Tungsten Pearl

Everytime I start up my car, I hear some minor rattles coming from the speedometer, I mentioned this to my service advisor when I went in for my oil change. He said he would have the tech look at it. After all is said and done, the tech stated this on my invoice,

Tech inspected and checked other IS250 and found both vehicles do same condition - Noise is speedometer and tachometer needles starting up.

Not sure if I believe the tech, so I am curious if he is BSing? I was kinda in a rush to leave with my car so I didn't bother testing out other IS models.

Anyone care to comment if their IS has some minor rattles from the speedometer?

My needles rattle on startup too. It happens when they flick to the redline/max mph and then go back then. I worried about it when I first got the car but I learned to ignore it. Make sure you don't have the engine startup rattle that quite a few people have experienced... My speedometer rattle was actually blocking the engine rattle sound until I kept my door open while starting up the car and the engine rattle was loud and clear. It wasn't so clear when the door was closed...

I have the same issue. Dealer told me it was normal for this vehicle. Only during start up.

The needle vibration is a defect in the analogue gauge cluster and should be replaced under warranty.

Hmm... so they would replace the entire gauge cluster to fix the rattle?

It might not be the needles at all. It might very well be the steering lock. They are very noisy and they're not going to replace them under warranty because they have to replace the entire steering column for $1800.

i've noticed my steering lock to be quite noisy too, but i dont think thats what the OP is talking about.

I've sat in other IS's at the dealership but they were also quite noisy so i thought it was normal

My needles make the same noise...

I have heard, a few people got the entire needle setup replaced?

I suffer from this too. I started to notice the rattle and then realized it was coming from the gauge cluster. As I analized a bit more, I also noticed that... That it only happens when you start up the car and the needles travel from being completely down up to the exact opposite position.

Should we contact the dealer to get a replacement? Who says the next gauge won't do the same?

Man,

Looks like Lexus has still many bugs to work out on this 2gen. I still love the car, but this is concerning.

I know this is an old thread but I had the same problem. Took it to the dealer and they replace with a new gauge cluster. My car is a 06 and I think they replaced with an 08 gauge cause I never had the fog light indicator on my gauge before.
