It's japanese ECU programming. Nifty if you have $1500 and a japanese car.

Unless your car is japanese a japanese ECU won't help you. If your car IS japanese then you already HAVE one.

And it's not an ecu, it's programming of one- translates as-

The tuning computer TECdmt for LEXUS IS (genuine computer rewriting)

(via yahoo/babelfish)

Goes on to describe some of the things they can change like

Fuel and ignition map modification
[supidorimitsuta] cancellation (speed limiter maybe?)
[akuserumatsupu] modification (dunno this one)

Again- this is stuff they have been doing for a while on JDM cars... it's included in the $10,000 cost if you buy the TOMs supercharger. And it requires a JDM ecu in your car.

It's why instead of the mere 5 lbs of boost the LMS kit runs the TOMs kit can run a "massive" 5.8 lbs. Woo hoo.

It's a replacement ECU, programmed by Tom's for use with their supercharger. You give them your ECU, they give you theirs. Only works on JDM IS's.

Negative, this is for -just- their reflashing your own ECU.

You remove the ECU, ship it to them, they reprogram, and ship it back. For $1500 (which is 5-6 times what this kinda service runs on a GM car)

From the translation-

3. Dispatching the genuine computer which has been attached to the car to [tomusu]

Ahead dispatching: The Tokyo Setagaya Ku Todoroki 6−13−10 corporation [tomusu] Sales Div. mail order relation

TEL03-3704-6191

! The postage origin you pay, being similar, dispatch. In case of cash on arrival when sending back you make cash on arrival.

4. At [tomusu] to do to rewrite the computer data, sending back. (These between approximately 3 business days)

^You're completely correct - it's a re-flash. That's what I was trying to indicate above... I'm pretty familiar with how this works, I know 3 people that have done this already and are running the Tom's supercharger. Well, one of them is still running it, anyway...

Just curious since you know a few folks who apparently did this and ended up -not- running the supercharger, what sort of gains are they seeing from just an ECU flash with the car NA? Or did they just get rid of the car is why they're not running it anymore?

I don't know of anyone who's running this without the supercharger. The reason that 2 of them are not running the Tom's supercharger anymore is because the kit requires you to use 100 octane fuel. Running on 91 octane completely ruined the kit and to date it hasn't been repaired because of cost.

Huh... that'd certainly explain (requiring 100 octane) how they manage 5.8 lbs of boost when LMS kit only does 5

Based on the limited results I've seen with SAFC type stuff on these cars I doubt an NA flash would be (safely) worth more than 10 hp anyway on pump gas, which is a bit steep at $1500 even if they could touch US spec ECUs

Ok. So let me get this straight.....
This is a Reflashed ECU that is used mostly to run your car along with the Toms SC... But it can also be used on N/A IS350's???... But it would be pointless reflashing it unless you have the SC right?
And they probably reflash it to run with 100 octane since thats what the SC kit requires..

By the way, Toms wheels are expensive!!

What they are selling, for about $1500, is a service to reflash your JDM ECU. You send them your ECU, they reprogram it, and send it back.

They can change some things like timing and fuel curves, removing the top speed limiter, etc. Again, JDM ECUs only.

The main reason you'd spend $1500 on this is to run the TOMs supercharger at 5.8 lbs of boost on 100 octane fuel.

In theory if you had an extra $1500, and a JDM 2IS, and wanted some ECU tuning done on your NA car, they could do that as well, but who knows how well they've tested what works well on an NA vehicle. Based on the gains people temporarily got with SAFCs and such I doubt it'd be much, certainly way below being worth the cost.

And, again, JDM cars only.
