Changed the oil and sent it out via priority mail to Blackstone...

My mechanic was like "This oil is pretty dirty, how many miles has it been?"

And he also said "Maybe 5 or so quarts came out, maybe you were running a little low"

Last oil change I only put in 6 quarts... This time he put in the required 6.6 quarts...

Why did you underfill it last time?

10k is ok, but when manufacturers reccomend more than that (20k and 35k) it is usually paired with both long life oils, and oil check which warns you if oil needs to be changed sooner than that.

saving few bucks on oil, on $40k car is crazy.

No reason, just lazy... Only had 6 quarts, didn't realize it needed 6.6...

Default Results are in...

It was only 14,000 miles, not 15,000, but close enough... Anyway, the results are back and all is well... TBN was 0.8 (I'm surprised it was that high) and everything else looks good... Interesting comment they made about wanting to get the metals out of there... But this shows that regular, cheap oil can go to 14,000 miles in our cars with extreme conditions just fine IMHO... Thoughts?

Technique - 14,000 miles on that oil is too much. It looks like 12,000 is the safe number regardless of brand. I will run one more change with the 0w-20 then I will use the 0w-30 and see the results.

Technique- What air filter are you using and are you in a high dust area? I'm using the K&N.

Stock air filter... I changed it out for the first time like a month ago, around 22k miles and 1.5 years after getting the car...

Other than the A/C filter (which I change every 4-6 months), I have done no other maintenance to the car besides put air in the tires.

3,000 mile oil changes are the biggest scam ever.

the oil change interval is one of the most talked about topics in all automotive message boards, and i still don't have a clear answer. same issue with synthetic vs. conventional.

let us know what you find, in a year.

lots of you go with 10k or longer oil change interval but what about the oil filter?
