View Poll Results: What will the blackstone oil analysis say about 15,000 mile old oil?
The oil will be terrible, totally degraded, you've ruined your engine

Changing my oil tomorrow at my local service shop after 15k miles... I will be sending the used oil in for analysis to blackstone...
Here's the history of my car:
- Bought new - ~6 miles
- A little less than 1 year later changed oil for first time at 10,000 miles - Blackstone results "Oil is good, you could have gone to 11,000 or more."
- 6 months later added 1/2 quart of oil as the level was a little bit low (At my original oil change, I didn't put in the full recommended amount, I think I just used 5 quarts or 6 quarts, just shy of whatever is recommended)
- Again, a little less than 1 year later, I am now changing my oil as my car's odometer is just shy of 25,000 miles...
A few random facts:
- I use whatever oil my local shop puts in, I think they used Castrol 5W-30 or something last time, nothing fancy... Regular oil...
- I pay $20 for my oil changes, including parts and labor (parts are from the lexus dealership)
- I drive my car VERY VERY hard (e.g. - Short trips, very frequent redline, no warmup time, etc.)
What do you think the oil analysis will say after 15,000 miles (3X longer than Lexus recommends)?

I am thinking that they will state that some of the metal contents are on the high side and all of the oil additives have been depleted (if you pay for that part of the analysis)
What were the oil filter change intervals???? 5k????

all i gotta say is 10,000 miles in under 12 months is crazy, wish i could handle that... i got like 8800 already and i had it for about 5 months...maybe 4 lol
if i had a 350 it would prolly be double that number lol![Smilie](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
thanks for the info though i dont want to do oil changes at stealership either.

Anyways for the original post...you probably will be ok. I would at least use full synthetic thats what i am going to use when it comes time to change and switch it every 10k. Probably just change mine own instead of donating to the stealership.

i'm with gaugster on this one. the last time i got a UOA from Blackstone, i ran mobil1 5w-30 for 6600 miles with no filter changes, and got a TBN of 3.8. they did recommend that i could go 7500 miles on the oil, but 15,000 seems like a bit too much, especially if you didn't do any filter changes in that interval.
on a separate note, i switched to mobil1 extended performance, and i'm pretty interested in what my UOA will say about that. currently at 10,000 miles with no filter changes.

I'd have no concerns running 15k (or even 25k) on something like Amsoil....A good quality dino oil I'd probably trust to at least 7500, or 10k...I doubt I'd go longer if I was being hard on it though.
(all of the above assumes a modern engine, if you're oiling your DeSoto that's another story :P)

i've had my car for 1.5 years and just before labor day weekend I had 8,600 miles.
After going to the Tail of the Dragon meet in NC, I have 10,800![Smilie](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Oh and about your oil, slighty used and abused. You should keep to 13k OCIs

I sent in my sample two weeks ago and no word yet. The sample is in the mail somewhere. I hope it gets to Blackstone soon. The sample has almost 12K miles on it. It was in for one year exactly, no filter change. It was Amsoil 0w-20. As soon as I get the results I will post.

I am paranoid and OCD on this topic hehe. because you might not feel it on a lexus cause the power curve is still pretty nice and the spark plugs are good quality, blah blah. but on my Mazda 6 S, I could definitely feel a diference, the sound of the car at idle was better, and the power curve was much more smooth.
