Check no accidents in carfax and if it's clean, snap it up! Two factors are important in car reliability - miles and age. They are so highly correlated that it's almost impossible to distinguish between them. I think I'd rather have a 3 year old car with 90k on it than a 9 year old car with 30k on it!

If a car sits too long it will sound horrible when starting up.

Cars are meant to be driven often. So I would rather buy a newer car with too many miles than an older car with too few miles. If you can get the service records and everything has been done on time... I'd say go for it.

Of course... try to get it for less.

my guess he probably got around 11-12 from the dealer on trade in and the accord ran him about 28K.

I wouldn't buy it.
Too many miles and add in the engine idling time with traffic issues into and out of NYC everyday.

If you are going to finance the car I would check your local banks or credit unions because most of the time they offer their own extended warranties for new & used cars. I purchased my IS used and purchased the extended warranty for 60,000 miles/5 years for $1500.00. Its covered bumper to bumper till 2013 or when I pass 85,000 miles. Small price to pay for peace of mind.

Don't buy the car, even if its a lexus @ 80K+ miles. You basically buying the car at high maintenance period, more money coming spending fixing/replacing around 100k miles.

The last owner probably didn't pamper the vehicle, since it was a commuter/future trade-in.

unless the honda dealer willing to sell the car around 18k OTD price...then its okay deal.

DON'T DO IT! Way too many miles on the car.

I have a 2007 IS250 and already Lexus is into approximately 7 grand in warranty repairs.

Any major problem: transmission, engine, electrical etc and you'll be hating life as the repairs could be astronomical in price.

High miles true but lets remember that it is a lexus. My aunt has had her 1st Gen LS400 since the first year they made it, has over 400k miles on it and the only thing that went wrong is, the AC stopped working.

Yea, 80,000mi is nothing, a lot of people here must the lucky people that can keep buying cars before 60,000mi. I'd say go ahead and get yourself that car and be happy.

You guys seem to forget that newer cars are a lot more advanced in terms of technology than an 89 ls400 meaning more expensive stuff to break $$$$$$. Nowadays manufacturers don't want the cars to last very long because if they did people would not be trading in their cars for newer ones and that would mean less sales for them. If you want a car that will last a long time then get a mercedes.

1st owner, 96 C36, less than 30k miles. yeah, the fuel tank sensor has gone bad 3 times (tho that has to do with the inactivity, less than full fuel tank allowing sensors to be exposed to moisture in the tank and corroding), and the a/c is just crap.

but we also had a 77 e300 diesel, and that noisy tank lasted forever.

50k miles is the warranty limit. might be a good idea for a lexus extended warranty for a 2 yr old car.
