Default Tire question

My front tires (25K) are wearing on the outside edges. I'm going to have to do something really soon. Looking at the rears, there appears to be quite a bit of tread left on them (could go at least another 5-10K).

Because we (IS350) owners can't rotate our tires, I'm guessing this isn't all that unusual to have the fronts wear out way before the rears.

When I buy new tires, I will certainly get all 4. I did a search on craigslist and there are quite a few listings for used (front) tires at 70-80% tread depth for $150-$180/pr. And, these are quality tires. Has anyone considered extending the life of their rears buy getting a set of used replacements for the fronts (the thinking being that the used fronts and rears will wear out at about the same time)? A couple hundred sure looks better than the thousand or so it will take to replace all four.

If your tires are wearing out more on the sides then your tires are under inflated. Stock IS tires are summer tires, they wear out more easier. How about the other rear tire? Wearing out as bad as the other one. You can rotate the tires R REAR to L REAR and R FRONT TO L FRONT. I don't know about buying used tires had bad experience with them before. I would recommend all season tires. And stay away from craigslist a lot of fraud is committed there unless you meet in person, in a public place.

I know what your talking about with the good deals on used tires, just beware and know your stuff to be able to tell tread life and condition and flat repairs and you should be good I think.

Just had an oil change at the Lexus dealer. Service tech said all 4 need replacing (back ones looked good to me but the tech said they're down to the wear bars). So, I guess I'm biting the bullet and getting a new set of 4. I'm shopping for some all season replacements. Hopefully, I can find something that gets me more than the 25K that the stock Dunlops did.

If you want higher mileage tires i would look at the more expensive Michellins. They usually have a longer life wear then most brands.

I would look at the wear bears just to verify that they are on the wear bars.
