i hope this has not been covered yet. if so my apologies and please point me to the appropriate thread.
i would like to know if the non-HID housings are the same as HID housings minus all the auto leveling and other features. i would think they differ but i would like to know for sure. instead of going with the aftermarket HID solution i would like to install the factory HIDs. has this been done before in non-HID housings?
i would image there would be a place for the ballasts to mount already and the wiring to differ just slightly to still accomodate both HID and non-HID setups.

I could be wrong but I would imagine the bowls are designed differently to only suit halogen bulbs. Just like reflector housings fitted with HID you get all that glare. And another thing is that the bulb housing is different. One is D4S and the other is H11. So if one wanted to go OEM, I would assume having to retro a different projector.

At least for me, the question I'm wondering is that if you can just hook up an aftermarket ballast and bulb to the non-hid wiring and housing (ie- from Xenon Depot), what's required to do the same with the FACTORY components.
Are the oem components wired up completely differently, or is there a location in the wiring where you disconnect the non-HID wiring and insert the HID components.
We already know that you can add HID to a non-HID housing with no problem (according to Xenon Depot)-----> I just want to use OEM components instead of aftermarket. Is this possible as a plug and play (not necessarily at the bulb connector, but maybe further up in the wiring)

There really is no point in doing that because the projectors for HIDS are different.
The advantage you have for your headlights are that you can swap out your projectors and do an easy retro fit with better quality oem projectors from like a s2000 or tsx.
If you're really interested in the oem setup, I have a pair of OEM HID headlights for the IS with the AFS motors, you'll need to buy the oem ballasts though. I have one extra oem ballast too.
Just pm me if you want to buy them
