Default 2006 IS250 - NEW Owner... USED car

Hey all... I am new to the forum! I had a 2004 IS300 up until last week.... I totalled it in an accident Anyhow, I purchased a 2006 IS250 over the weekend. I am just trying to get familiar with it. It is fully loaded and alot of the features are confusing me! Looking for anyone who is willing to answer a zillion questions for me.

I didnt buy it at a Lexus dealership... but have an appointment in a week to get the bluetooth set up to me etc at a Lexus dealership. I just have questions on the satelite radio, I called Lexus and they tell me my car is wired for it, but I have to purchase additional stuff for it to work. Has anyone had this done? Will they add a shark fin antenna or something else. Just want to know what to expect.

Thanks, look forward to hearing from everyone.

I dont think it is wired for it, unless you have a shark fin to begin with. there is a DYI in the FAQ section of this forum. it might help you decide if you want to have it done by the dealer or aftermarket vendors.

Congrats on the new car!

They looked my car up by VIN and told me if was wired for it... said if it has SAT on the AM button it is. Who knows... I get so confused!

In 06, there was no shark fin. But the car is satalite radio "ready". You need to purchase the box and kit from a dealer, and either install it yourself, or have them install it. It will not include a shark fin, it will include a standard antenna, that can be mounting under the rear deck lid for an invisible install, however, tinted windows can affect the operation. Normal place for installation of the antenna is on the trunk lid, ugly.

Blue tooth is easy to set up--if the dealer is going to charge you, do it yourself.

Sorry to hear about your accident. What happened? Were you at fault?

I agree with slee18 you should visit the DIY in the FAQ, it should help you out with your Bluetooth issues. If you're going to take it to Lexus, hopefully they don't charge you an arm and a leg for it.

Default Congratulations..

i recall wanting the first gen IS300 since its first came out in 01, so i finally had the courage to go to stealership in 05, but then realized the car had been out for about 4 years by then so i decided to bite my lip and wait another year for the redesigned IS, and what do you know...i purchased a brand new 2007 in sept of 2006, Quick question How many miles are on it and how much did you get it for?

I have mine installed on the bottom corner of the rear window. Can hardly notice it, and I get great reception.

I agree with the deck lid install not being good with tinted windows. I tried that first and I couldn't get down my street without dropping signal, every single tree I drove under would cause it to lose the signal.

If you're at all handy, I would recommend getting the XM kit from Sewell Lexus and install it yourself. Someone has an excellent step-by-step install procedure posted here. I paid something like $270 for the parts and installed it myself in about 90 minutes. Dealer wanted $800 for parts and labor.

Congrats on your new ride. I LOVE MINE, I can tell you that.

Bluetooth- easy to setup...try to do it yourself
Satellite Radio- factory one will be the shark fin on top of your roof unless you're getting an aftermarket one and those are not easy to install....let them do it. =P well...not easy for me.
