Well I can't even see people cross shopping both. Heck even the last TL was barely cross shopped with the IS.
The new TL is 195 inches long. That is as long as their own RL and new Accord. Its as big as an old LS 400.
The IS is 180 inches long.
The difference in size, let alone anything else, will mean the TL and IS will not be cross shopped much.
While the TL is sportier than the ES, both are based on the Camry/Accord, both are FWD (only 20% of cars will be AWD) and both have nice interiors and are big.
Acura once again, shows how clueless they are with this ugly barge.

anyone see the old cl in the tl?
and for those who say the tl wasn't cross shopped, we did. it was pretty much fully loaded for a bit cheaper than the is350. but we already had a tsx, so we went with something different.

these "AWD" cars disgust me, they are really front wheel drive cars, their transmissions still sit inside the engine bay with their V6 twisted so to speak, and they just run a drive shaft via transfer case to the back diff.
honestly i hate that design, which is why i love subaru awd's they are still back mounted on the engine, with axles shooting out the sides of the trans and the back,
to me it seems really cheap, front mounted transmissions with AWD cuz of the transfer case, the honda pilots have them, this acura has them..... blah such a messy design

But the rub there is it will still be 190 inches long (AHOY!) and spinning the scales to nearly two tons (OINK!), which doesn't seem like much of a "track car" to me. Also SH-AWD doesn't offset the nose forward weight distribution all that much.
Moreover, the whole "track argument" is a bit akin to when the Acura MDX with SH-AWD hit and all the magazines tested it at the race track and were wowed that it defined a new benchmark in high speed handling for a mid-sized crossover. The slalom speeds were AMAZING! Eventually most of them finally shook off the ether and said, "Who in the hell drives a mid-sized crossover like that to begin with?" The answer, of course, is, "Almost nobody." The things are basically minivan replacement vehicles and driven as such.

After I posted the photo of the rear of the TL here the other day, I started to think that I'd seen that ugly, ugly rear somewhere before. And then, this morning, I was at a traffic light, and the car in front of me made it all so clear:
Acura copied Saturn, of all companies.
lol.
