Haha why on earth would you pick the slower car if performance mattered to you?
Styling is subjective, though.

THing is the TL is actually 195 inches long, and weighs 4000lbs. The SH-AWD will have 59/41 weight distribution. It is not a pure car on the track and I doubt hardly anyone takes it there.
Like the GT-R, the car's electronics aka SH-AWD will really help make the driver better b/c its such a good AWD system. However when u look at everything else, its all wrong.
I doubt much anyone will cross shop the IS vs TL. People that pick the TL will say this argument "I got a much bigger car for the price of the IS".
At that point, just buy a Buick.

And also I agree with this. When I was shopping I looked at the IS, 335i, G37, audi S5 (not really the same but it's sexy)
I did not look at the c350 because i didn't like it. I would love a C63 AMG (hell I'll probably get it as my NEXT car 8+ years from now or whatever they have at that time, C70 AMG who knows) but it's too expensive right now.
The IS is leaps and bounds better than the TL.

I don't know about that but I do think it's a better vehicle. As for a person with a family I think they should purchase the TL. That car is so ugly.

When I bought IS350 couple months ago, I looked into 335i,G37,TL-SHAWD,C350.
335i: really nice car but too much $ and tight shoulder on front seats.
G37: it is more sports car in 30K range than luxury car near 40k. noisier too.
TL-SHAWD: large space good handling but turn-in can't match IS350 even though weight dist is about the same. IS engine sits back more into the cabin area. TL drinks gas like V-8 due to full time SH-AWD. also somehow, v-6 vtec engines drink gas a lot.
19mpg in 2 days of loaner car.
C350: safe car but underpowered
IS350: 23.8mpg tank avg when it was driven in the same road condition as TL-AWD. 29.2mpg hwy 75-90mph avg speed. high resale value. 306hp/277torque.

There is no way anyone picks a TL for performance over a IS, 335 or G37 since it has LESS performance. If you like the styling, that is your opinion.

I haven't sold my '07 IS350 yet, and probably won't for a few more years, so I can't attest to the local resale/trade-in value. But yeah, I can't even get up my (fairly steep) driveway in a light dusting with my all season tires. I have to get out and shovel, even in <1" of snow. I've yet to get stuck on a public road, since most aren't that steep in town, although acceleration can be minimal going uphill from a stop. I'd much rather have AWD. Not enough to downgrade to a 2.5L, but I can definitely understand why people buy them.
Personally I'm gonna grab a set of Blizzaks & put 'em on some spare rims this year to see if it makes a difference. Hopefully I can have the best of both worlds -- power for the summer, and mobility in the snow. I'd grab some snow cables, but it's a PITA to put them on, and it could cost as much to get the damage repaired as it would have cost to buy winter tires, if not more. Plus the wife's got a Jeep Grand Cherokee, so as long as I don't get stuck anywhere, we can use her car for the ski trips.
