i know this is the wrong section, but threads get more hits here and i need suggestions due to soon extended warranty expiration...
I had my sub (1 Alpine Type R 12'), amp (Kenwood) for about 3 years now. The set up run about 500 RMS 1500max watts, and i play it hard daily. Recently after 5-10 min of playing, there will be like a burning wire smell. Could this mean the sub is about to blow? experiences??
thanks for the quick advice/opinion

Could be a lot of things. Audio systems can get complicating and frustrating.
I think what you're experiencing is clipping. Maybe you should turn it down a little bit if you want to keep your setup.
In layman's terms, clipping is basically asking the amp for too much voltage when it can't handle the amount of power you want. By doing so, you're distorting the wave and ultimately damaging your woofer and anything else connected to the amp.
My guess is that the amp is getting tired or you've used it to it's full extent. I would buy a better amp- that is if you want keep bumping hard =)
hope this helped.
