Default HID light experts, chime in

hello all~
I think it's time for me to upgrade my HID (STOCK ones)
headlight and fogs
so I want some recommendation on which bulb and which brand I should get

I understand that our(2007 HID stock) bulb is 4000k, right?
I don't want to go anything above 8000k
(did my research and read that anything above 8000k is not worthy)

and our Fogs are 3000k?? right??

so what do you guys recommend for my headlight
I want it 8000k,,so which brand, and where can I get it?
oh and how much??

and as far as fog,
I don't want to lose the fog-light function, so I have no idea how I can upgrade it without losing the function of it..
(if I want it to be white, then I'll definitely lose the function of it right?)

I'm super newb to lighting, so please educate me..lol
and I did my search, so don't give me that
"search is your best friend" thanks in advance!!!

Kenny

I really doubt the stock HID is 6k. More like 4K

Go with 8k up top and either 8k on bottom or 3k

H11 = Main = 9006 Fog

Anything over 5000K give you less light output.

5000K up is just for color

Wrong.

Our stock HID systems are rated approximately at 4300k. This is generally a white with a slightest hint of yellow (veryyyy slight). 6000k is white with a slight hint of blue and 8000k is bluer than 6000k. If you seek functionality and looks, 6000k is a perfect balance for your needs. 8000k loses significant lighting.

Remember, for your HID low beams, get D4S size bulbs (D4C works to but DO NOT get D4R).

Our fogs are not 3000k. At least, it's not rated with the same kelvan scale. I don't know what it be on that scale. Our fogs are not HID but instead they're halogen bulbs which are a different technology. If you seek to change your fogs to white, you will not lose the functionality of fogs but it will not be as effective. If you do, however, switch the fogs to HID's that are white (say 5000k bulbs), then the fogs will be brighter than the yellow halogen fogs you have now.

I think what you're worried about is light refraction. Yellow lights do not refract as much as white or blue lights thus when there's rain or fog, the light will refract and be less effective which is also why 8000k HID's are not effective in said conditions.

For maximum lighting, I recommend you to stay with the 4300k low beams and get a 3000k (yellow) HID fogs. Our fogs are 9006 bulbs. 4300k has the most light output out of any rated color temperature thus you'll be able to see more. 3000k works best out of any temperature in fog or rain so when your 4300k is ineffective in rain, the 3000k can cover you.

If you want the best looks, 8000k lows will give you a great look (or 6000k if 8000k is too "rice" for you). That coupled with the 3000k fogs will give you a great JDM look but if you dont want that, 6000k top and bottom is cool too. I wouldn't recommend 6000k lows and 4300k/5000k fogs as that'll just look funky, or at least to me it'd look funky

If you have anymore questions (which I think you might as this is quite a bit to grasp initially), you can ask away or even contact one of our HID vendors and they can explain it to you over phone or something. Good luck!

definitely nothing over 6k if you want to have any usable light during the rain.

^+1. 8k is horrible in the rain or streets with very bright lights, such as hollywood strip , vegas, etc. 6k will be the best for visible light if you plan to switch from your stock.

If where you live has thick fog, boost up to a 3000k HID kit.

Edit: Llama will bust out with his signature picture of his and weespeed's car.

i like my 6000k's. definitely a step up from the stock 4300k's.

i'm also thinking of 3000k HIDs for my fogs.

on a tangent, get your bulbs from mobileHID or xenondepot - both are reputable CL vendors. i got my 6000k's from mobileHID for $80 shipped. PM cliffud for details (fyi he was also there @ EOS).

wow
thanks everyone
so I guess I was wrong about 8000k..lol
I went back and saw that anything above 6000k is not worthy not 8000k

so I'm thinking of getting 6000k for my HID, and maybe upgrade my fog to
3000k..

but like you mentioned, our Fog is not HID, but it's halogen,,right?
but you guys said to upgrade it to 3000k HIDs for fog?
what does that mean?? use HID bulb on halogen??

and is 3000k whiter than our stock fog light??

thanks everyone!!

6k and 3k is perfect IMO, but I stuck to OEM 4300k cause I don't really find reason to change it other than color OEM FTW!! LOL

I have 8K D4S on my lowbeams, and 8k h11 (i think) on the fogs, looks great but the colors are going to be off because our fogs aren't projectors like the lowbeams are. 8K fogs look amazing, everywhere i go people always tell me how nice my lights are....but not how nice the car is bastards. :\

H11's are stock non-HID. our fogs are 9006 bulbs. just make sure you contact the vendor as they'll be able to pull out all the information for you. if anything you can always check the sylvania website which tells you exactly what bulb to use for just about any part of your vehicle. good luck!

also take note of this. when buying bulbs between different vendors, a 6000k for one company might look 8000k for another and maybe 5000k for a third company. It's just a variability between companies. If you're purchasing from one of our vendors, ask for pictures from other members here or directly from the vendor and we/they'll be more than happy to show you the color differences. that way, you can get the exact color you want.

remember as a general rule of thumb:

3000k = yellow
4300k = white + yellow tint
5000k = white
6000k = white + blue tint
8000k = blue + white/white tint
10000k+ tends to be variable from what i see in companies
Typically I see 10000k as a VERY deep blue and sometimes purple. or pink And 12000k is typically purple or pink. I highly DO NOT recommend getting these colors unless it's a show car, you don't care about lighting (dangerous) or you want a ticket

Here's a good table for you to check it out. Also remember there is deviation as I previously said particularly between different companies.
