tire help
I'm gonna need my 30k service done pretty soon on my AWD. I think its time i get new tires. The tread looks fine but i remember last year in the snow, the car did slide a bit a couple of times when i turned even at a very slow speed..didn't happen my first winter with this car.
Would buying a new set of the stock tires be good enough. I'm just looking for safety and some lifespan out of them. I have 17' tires, but dont know the exact tire measurment numbers i'd have to look for.
thanks

You managed to get 30k out of stock tires on an AWD? Wow, we had to replace ours at just over 18k. We went with the Falken all season performance tires this time. Did a lot of research, read all the reviews, finally read CR tests and settled on the Falkens - so far have been superb and a lot better road feel than the OEM Bridgestone’s.

I'm looking at the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AA Pole position ultra high performance all season...are these any good? The dealer told me i need low profile tires (if its even true). would these do?
I actually went to the dealer today and was told i need new tires. they wanna charge me $2500. I can get it done at sts for $1130, but i'll ask a few more spots to see if i can get a better price.
what about the falken Ziex EX-912 tires?

Falken 912's
We got the 912 UHP's (Ultra High Performance) all seasons and the difference between them and the OEM Bridgestones is dramatic. The IS corners better, steering feel is much improved, and the one time we've been in snow (already this year - global warming my ***!) they were great. I do not recall exactly what we paid (installed) but believe it was like $650 through the local Sears Auto Center. They did have to special order the size for us. So far I've been impressed, wish Falken had been able to provide a comperable for our RX when I needed tires.

Subjectively, I think that they are quite a bit quieter, but that also may be partially due to the fact that the OEM's were getting very thin on tread, and consequently increasingly noisier. So far, tread wear has been far better than OEM, and neither my wife or I are “gentle” drivers, despite our advanced age (when compared with vast number of the IS forum members! )
