Well you should check the dipstick and make sure it isn't too little or too much, 6 quarts may be too little depending on how you drain your oil (conventional method, pump, ect.)

i let it drip drain, so i guess conventional method? and i let it drip for a while. if it isn't too little or too much, and i put in somewhere towards the full line on the dipstick, what kind of harm would there be? and thanks for your quick answer.

No harm done if its to the top of the full mark on the dipstick, just make sure you do not overfill it as this could cause excessive work on the pump, damage to the seals, ect. In addition, overfilling can cause the oil to lose it lubrication properties if the crankshaft is churning the oil.

I'm confused. Why aren't you using the dipstick to check the oil level? If you do, I expect you'll need to add about 2.5 quarts to bring yourself between the low and high marks on the stick.

sorry for th confusion. people were saying they were putting 6.5 quarts in their car and I only put in 4 qts. I check on a level surface and noticed I was low, so I put in 1 more qt and now its perfect. it shows right where it should on my dip stick. right below the 2nd dot.

I'm the dip stick IMO!!

Below the second dot means you're still a little low.

I guess I didn't understand when you said below the second dot. By second dot, I thought you meant the lower dot. Yes, you want to be between the two dots.

Make sure you are at the second dot and not over. Overfilling is worse than underfilling. It is easy to check oil levels in the 2gen. Should be a little over 6.5 qts with a filter change.

If it calls for 6.8 quarts, I would just dump in 7 quarts. I have done this with all my cars, rounding up to the next qt. For example my old car called in for 4.5 qts and I always put in 5 qts. Never had a problem doing that.
