How To: Replacing Side Mirror Puddle Lights w/ PICS!
#76
agree with the not as easy as it looks for the first side. the main issue is trying not to pull apart the two halves too far and looking out for the flexi tab on the bottom as it fits into the metal flange from the blinker... as long as you line it up right, it snaps back real easy. once you do it once though the second sides a breeze!

My suggestion is to look where the plastic tab goes into the little gap. Line it up and use some force. Make sure it looks ok, and it will not be flush until you screw the screws back in.

Is the plastic tab on the bottom of the mirror? I can get everything to align on the bottom portion of the mirror, including the area around the pud light...its the top part that wont snap into place. I can use force to make everything line up but as soon as I let go, the top portion of the mirror cover comes out and breaks alignment.

ya the plastic tab is on the bottom of the mirror.. when i did it i was careful to limit the amount that i pried open the top.. there must be some similar kind of issue with a tab that is bent not allowing it to go into place... i would try wiggling it and all that... worst case scenario you'll have to pop off the mirror (like in other diy threads) by raising the mirror up and yanking it out of its clips (on the bottom half of the mirror) then removing mirror allowing access to the screws on the other half so that you can take the whole front half off and see where the problem is.
but try jiggling it while you apply pressure and see if it snaps back.
also make sure that it's not the plastic tab at the bottom.

good diy
eddie's write up seems to be the easiest and safest way to swap out the bulbs. i've researched at length on the cl forum how to do it and this seems the best. gonna order some bulbs and try to prove this theory right lol.

just for confirmation-just got done installing the flank bulbs from v-leds for the puddle lights. driver's side was a piece of cake, passenger side gave me a little trouble because the seam on the mirror cover wouldn't close in like it did before i pried it apart. got it to close in as best i could, but overall happy with the results. much brighter and yes they do fade. v-led flank 4w hp ftw.
