Default Any Tips/Advice? Buying '09 250 out of state (TX)

Hey guys, just a semi-newb lurker here about to get my first 250. cause of the limited options available here in the west coast region (I'm looking for obsidian/black/HID's/18" rims/NO nav), I'm leaning toward buying from the closest "out of market" state, in which this case is texas. and of course pay the $500 shipping fee, as I can't really find the time to head out there, and in the end, the cost of airfare, hotel, etc would cost around the same Isuppose.

so naturally, I feel a bit insecure having to discuss deal points for the car I want over the phone, and just wanted to hear about previous experiences and words of wisdom from members who purchased from out of state dealerships. would pitting dealerships against each other even work from a customer who is calling to purchase from out of state? any advice on which dealerships in texas would give me the best deal?

thanks in advance. much appreciated!!

What are you looking for?

All IS's around here will have 18's, by the way.

why are you buying it in TX when you are in CA?

you could probably get BETTER deals if you buy it in CA

oh oops, yea what I have listed above is what I'm looking for. after calling multiple dealerships in CA, it's been confirmed that the western region will NOT be getting '09 250s with just HID's/18's/prem package. also, to make things worse, here in the west, not even the 250's with nav/18's come with HID's. if you want stock HID's, it has to be x-package or nothing. apparently what I'm looking for didn't sell well the last couple of model years.

what do you mean? as mentioned above, there are certain packages/combinations of options you can't get in certain regions. sadly, what I'm looking for is available everywhere in the U.S. but the western region.

What you want is a Southwest region package, but a dealership in California ought to be able to sell you the car at a good price plus the transport fee.

oh ok I wasn't aware there was an actual separate name for the regional packages. that's exactly what I was thinking too, and have directly asked a few local dealerships about it. I haven't heard back from one, and the other (which had great service, btw) dealership called and said the manager was telling him they wouldn't bring in a car from an entirely different region unless I'd buy it for sticker price. umm.. screw that. there's really no reason to pay sticker.

I've talked to a few out of state dealership so far, and got a pretty good quote for exactly what I want from one of em. but of course I'll call around to a few more and have them beat the previous offer.

so any other words of advice out there I should know/consider before jumping in?

It's not called a "Southwest Package", it's just how they are equipped here.

Our basic IS 250 has the premium package, 18's, heated / ventilated front seats, HID's. Runs about $35,900 sticker.

Asking you to pay sticker is a little nuts. We usually go somewhere around $1800 over invoice and we pay shipping costs on that kind of deal.

If you're serious about buying one from TX, I would recommend getting one from Houston and not just any city like San Antonio, where there is only one dealership.

yea, that's what a local dealer here in socal was asking I had to agree on in order for them to bring a car from a different region. so, out of state it is. you're right with the shipping costs though. when I talked to my guy at a dealership in dallas, the price of the car we were discussing for a few seconds was an OTD price including tax+title and shipping costs.

nice, that seems like a great deal. 2009? that includes premium package (wood trim, perf. leather, etc) as well I assume? I may have to give park place a call too then. who'd you deal with over there if you don't mind me asking?
