Hey Everyone,
I'm starting to think about ordering summer tires to go along with my new wheels (Five Axis S5:F). I'm planning to run 235/35/19 in the front and 265/30/19 in the rear.
I've done a little research on tirerack and these are the tires I'm thinking about, in order of expense:
Most expensive
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ~ $1400
Pirelli PZero Rosso ~ $1400
Mid
Yokohama ADVAN Sport ~$1200
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric ~ $1000
Cheapest
General Exclaim UHP ~ $575
At first, I was almost dead set on the ADVAN Sport, but then I saw that it had a relatively short estimated life. Then I saw, based on some of the recommendations of fellow posters, that the Generals have the longest life and are BY FAR the cheapest. So, I'm looking for a quality tire that won't break the bank, but I'm not sure if the Generals are good or not. I drive spirited sometimes, but generally don't do any racing or anything other than fast acceleration.
Based on my info, which of these tires do you think I should go with? (also, bear in mind that I'm in the pothole capital of the world -- Minneapolis)

I've had Generals on a couple of my cars. Decent, predictable tire but noisy after a few thousand miles. In my experience, most tires in this category will transmit appreciable road noise after awhile, but I've read/heard that the PS2s are quietest (have not owned them).
At a fraction of the cost, no way the Generals are a fraction of Michelins with regard to quality, performance, etc. So, with your wallet in mind, I'd probably get the Generals. If you simply must have the "best" (value be damned), I'd probably spring for the PS2.

If your budget permits, go with Michelin PS2. I have nothing but good things to say about those tires. Probably the best (in terms of road noise and performance) tires I've owned to date. I've put on about 17k miles on my tires and the front ones still have about 40% left and the rear about 35 to 40% left.
From my previous experiences, Pirelli tends to get very noisy as the tires wear. So personally, they are out of the question if I were to spend that much on tires.
Although, I've never experienced the quality of Goodyear, I heard a lot of good things about Eagle F1 Asymmetric tires.
