I searched for the DIYs and it looks like the AC cabin filter change should be a breeze. But I could not locate a definitive DIY instructions for the engine air filter. Is this difficult to do?? For those of you who did this yourselves, was the whole process easy to do?
Hell I've been quoted drastically different prices by different service writers at the same dealer. I asked about having my F-sports put on at a local dealer one guy said it would cost $900 and the guy 2 cubes down said it would be $500...
This is normal...
I hope everyone realizes that the service advisers in the service department are commission based just like the salesmen in the sales dept.
In fact, many service advisers are former car salesmen from the same dealership that got promoted... They make MUCH more money in the service department for obvious reasons...
Rule: Treat the service department the same way you treat the sales department...
u want want to replace the engine air filter u can't miss it. just pop open the hood and take the plastic covers off. u should see a black box on the passenger side that is connected to the intake. thats where the filter is and all you have to do is unclip it. swap and ur done.
i just had my 15k done today. i was quoted $285...and talked them down 20% because i do all my service their and bought the car from them brand new....so not too too bad!!
Wow, so you got ripped for $228 for an oil change ($50), a $14 filter, and a $16 filter? That would be the last time I went back there...

not exactly...they rotated the wheels and rebalanced them. oil change. changed filters 2 in all... replaced windshield wiper blades...alignment was done...lubricated joints. and fixed dash rattle which is a non 15k item...i wouldn't consider it a bad deal...i paid 150 in parts and the rest in labor. in my book not too bad. i get piece of mind and didn't have to do ****.
Just received pricing on filters from lexus dealer: $18 - engine air filter and $47 for air refiner element.
what exactly is air refiner element?
Probably the cabin air filter (aka the Air conditioning filter) (aka the climate control system filter)...
IMHO, that's the single most important item in the entire car to change on a regular basis... It's the air you breathe... I change mine every 4-6 months...
