Default blacked out tailights

just had a quick question:

would blacked out tail lights affect the backup camera greatly?

The camera is over the license plate, so I don't see what effect blacking out the tail lights would have on the functionality of the camera - since the light is provided by the LED's above the license plate.

What? What does tail lights have to do with your backup camera, isn't your backup camera under your trunk next to the trunk opening button?

If you leave the reverse light un-tinted, you will get a brighter vision of the floor.

Slightly, but i did notice a difference...

I am getting my smoked film put on this week, but I was going to have the shop cut out the reverse light. Mainly because it looks better, but now i guess it will add functionality as well. Has anybody else cut theirs out, how difficult/easy was it to do? Im primarily concerned about scratching the actual tail light since it would have to be done when the film is on...

Cutting the overlay is really easy - you can do it with a modeling/putty knife, and you won't scratch the lens if just take your time with it. Here's some pics of other members who have cut out the reverse light from their overlay:

I recently had NO REVERSE Lights for a short time period..

.. I can tell you for sure that Backing Up during night time and/or complete darkness with No Reverse Lights or in a well light area, made my Nav Screen View pretty much blurry and useless..

So I can safely say, smoking them will cause a dimmer view on your nav screen at night.

Excellent, that was very helpfull thank you Javy. The shop who did my tint mentioned there is a guy who has done a ton of these tail light overlays he should have no problem then. The shop has a very good reputation as a tint installer w/ warranties on everything.

or you guys can always do what i did. i smoked my tails the whole asembly. then i swapped the reverse lights to the brightest LED that i could get from VLEDS. now even with the smoked overlays the backup lights are brighter then stock and before the overlays.

A1, Did you swap out all the other bulbs, like the brake and night lights as well?

in the tailight the only other lights you can change are the turn signals. i swapped those to LEDS also.
