the dealer does not use a full synthetic like mobile 1 for the standard oil change. If they do have it it will definitely be more then $50. Some dealers will allow you to bring in your own oil/filter and just charge you for the labor if you guys are looking for that.

Mobile 1 : Walmart
Oil Filter : Toyota dealer (if you can find a discount coupon, you should be able to get it around $4 a piece)

Mobil 1 is a bit too expensive for my taste, so, I've been sticking with Semi. As long as you change your oil every 3-5k miles, you'll be fine.

I use Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic 5W-30 which you can usually get for the price of reg oil and Wix filters from the local auto parts store which are about 4 bucks.

Expensive? Not when you use it for 10k miles. It's actually cheaper than conventional oil and you reduce the risk of contaminating your engine by 50%. I have plenty of solid evidence you can very safely run 10k OCI on Mobil 1.

No doubt, but, you'd still need to change the filter every 5k. Either way, as long as it's being changed at regular intervals, it's all good.

I buy my own oil and then take it to a Toyota dealership. Comes out to about $60 with synthetic oil, filter, and labor.

I did this with my Supra once. They put Pennzoil in it instead of the Red Line I gave them. It coked and coated the engine with varnish in 5k miles. I'll never, ever, give anyone my oil to put in my car. I had to use paint stripper to remove the varnish. Needless to say I was livid.

I can't do mine cause my car is so damn low but my friend does mine for 10$, and hes a Lexus tech, so..but you dont need to be a tech to CHANGE OIL!!
Spare me your insolent tone. I'm still not convinced that it's easier to do it yourself as opposed to having it done at a shop. What should I do with the oil when I'm done with it? Dump it in the trash? Don't think so.

No, take it to your local recycling center, or auto zone or any of the places i listed, they'll take in your oil.

even though changing oil is easy, i would rather pay someone and not get dirty. i have a mechanic who charges very little for an oil change.
