Throttle Body Cleaning?

awesome thread. Thanks guys. In my 2004 Accord, this was always recommended to me and I never did it. I'll try to do it on there now that the car is around 120k+. But good to know that on my new 2008 IS 350 (about to be at 5k miles) I don't have to worry about this for a while.
Is this mentioned in the manual?

Awesome thread, i was recommended this today and it seemed odd to me. Looks like I'll just get to it in the spring if i have time to throw away since my car only has 17k miles lol.

After reading through this thread again, it seems 60k's a good mileage to consider doing it? I'm only at a bit over 36k right now in my '08 IS 350. I'm wondering if I should look at it for my dad's 07' CR-V (not sure of mileage but it's pretty up there) and my sister's '04 Accord I4 (which is somewhere over 166k miles).

Idle roughness is the first sign the build up is too much. "Driving sluggish" has nothing to do with the throttle body being dirty. You'd never know the TB is dirty if it didn't start idling rough.
In the days of cable operated throttle plates you could easily tell it was getting dirty because it would stick closed when the engine was cold. With today's DBW, you can't tell anything directly.

Umm. OK, you can beg to differ all you like. I owned a '93 GTS Celica with the 5FSE engine, and there was nothing in the world short of a turbo which would make it drive anything less than sluggish even when brand new. But I digress.
The amount of carbon on the blade from normal running won't change airflow at anything over 2% opening. Seriously. So telling me "it runs sluggish" and then you clean it and it's better only means you're barely opening the throttle or there's a more serious issue with the basic health or tuning. I've done a lot of this on Toyota engines since the 4A-GE I had in my '88 GTS Corolla. It never made any difference in how it ran. Same thing with Celica, Supra, Camry, MR2(s), and others I have both owned and serviced. Idle cleans up a little and the blade stops sticking. Nothing more. There were many times I wished it would help, but it didn't.

OP – Sounds like the stealership is mixing up what it should recommend for the IS250 vs. your IS350. fwiw, I had the whole BG induction service performed by Toyota for about $140. That process purports to clean the whole intake. I.e. TB, Intake, Intake Valve and combustion chambers.
Don’t go there again. They're dumb…

just cleaned my own throttle body... but i reading from other car manufactures that they put some special coating, on our throttle to prevent it from sticking from factory? is that true? Will throttle cleaner and water mess up my throttle body? seems exactly the same as it was before.

i would not recommend spraying throttle body cleaner into the throttle body. some vehecles, if you open the throttle plate by hand, you can ruin your throttle body and will need to be replace. the reason the dealer charge you 300 is because they have to remove the throttle body from the intake manifold and then clean it without opening the plate manualy and will not damage the throttle body. if you dont know what you are doing then, i would recommend you doing it or you will have problems

i go to lexus of bellevue also. they are recommending differential, fuel injectors, and throttle body and i'm only at 33k. doesn't sound right at all. from reading other threads, seems like it is common for them to do so.
