New dealer policy: All loaner cars are charged out at $.15 a mile. No need to gas up. They will just take the odometer reading at the beginning and ending and you pay at the $.15 rate.

This is what Inskip Lexus in Warwick, RI is now doing.

Anybody else experiencing this new policy?

At $80 for an oil change, I believe a loaner shoujld be free, no questions asked.

I would also be rather disappointed if i had to go in for warranty work and pay for a loaner. what would be the point fo buying a lexus then?

these "policies" are different from dealerships to dealerships, it's not nationwide.

Never heard of this. But my dealer loans the car with a full tank and expects it back full.

Same here - except i've never seen it full, so it makes me wonder how many people actually fill it up.

Find another dealer - and tell Inskip why! Lexus service rates are high enough to include overhead for loaner cars.

I had a similar thing happen at Westside Lexus in Houston. Except they charge a flat $9 dollar rate for the whole time. I put nearly 1000 miles on the loaner when I had it for almost 2 weeks. That would add up to $150!!!

Dealer told me that the flat $9 rate was due to the fact that people would take the loaner, and then run the toll roads in Houston, lol.

Weird thing is.. the service rep had me sign a paper agreeing to the $9 fee, but I never gave them my credit card or anything...

EDIT: Also dealer said no need to gas up. I got the loaner with only 1/4 tank. But I got my car back from service with a full tank!

I was in Inskip and saw the sign. Their previous policy was give you the car full of gas , take it back full. Everyone uses the rental differently, to me I get the rental in the am, drive it to work then drop it off again. Its about 35 miles round trip. I'm fine paying $5.25 vs having to stop and put gas in.

Having said all that my real preference would be not to put gas in or pay for it

What I meant by additonal "adminstrative crap" at dealer was the following based on my service visit today:

Warranty repair today was $0 (free, no bill).

If I had to pay per mile, there would have been additional SA involvement recording the mileage, doing paperwork and exchanging of money at cashier. But today I didn't have any of this.

That's all, IMHO I prefer the "bring it back full" technique. Or in short, I like the way my Lexus dealer handles this.

btw - They did fill up my IS350 for free, which was nice.

i most definitely agree. i am actually all for about filling up. i have to fill up if i drive my car anyway, so i have no problem filling up the car

now counting the miles i drive, umm.....
