Default To (2IS300 Middle East) Don't try!

Dear guys and girls who owns this car.

You have to know no matter what of exhaust, air intake filter or what ever you will install will never give you gain to your car... Unless you install a turbo or super charger that would be different story...

Here is my story...

My friend and I have 2IS300 Middle East version. I don't usually race cause in my place there isn't a good place for racing... The roads full of police, and Cameras...

My Car (Lexus 2IS300 Stock)!
My mods:
TOM'S Rear bumper kit
ASA Wheels 19 inch 27lbs each!

His Car (Lexus 2IS300 Tuned)
His Mods:
Body Kits Design done by a garage called Action Car which makes body kits just like Job Design.
Full Exhaust and Air Intake Filter.
18 Inch Wheels each 24lbs if I'm not mistaken.

Our Race Rules:
Traction Control is OFF
Switch from Normal Mode to Power
Use Tiptronic Sport Manual mode

He knew one road which is good for racing. I followed him and we had one of our friends to count for us to 5 to start the race. On the Go sign both of us were driving next to each other accelerated at the same time driving really fast no joke in this race... Shifting the tiptronic gear at RPM 6 from 1st to 2nd and so on till we are at the 6th gear. No curbs or anything it's a high way race...

after 140KM My car kept accelerating and his car was slower than my car.

Can Someone explain this?

I would say... Those stuff like Exhaust and Air Intake won't do anything unless you install turbo or super charger...

I think those mods exhaust and air intake filter for those who want to go for Zalama Style... loooooool It's a style of those who have the old noisy BMWs...

Weight makes a large difference.

Size of the wheels and tires changes gearing too.

And power mode, and manual mode, are both slower than just normal mode and floor it in automatic mode, and that removes human error in shifting too.

if you guys are controlling the shifts its a driver's race. you can also cut down on weight if you race with 1/4 tank vs a full tank and ake out the spare tire.

It's not nice?

I dunno about that, but it's certainly faster.

A computer is -way- better than you at shifting in a race.

And normal mode is faster than power mode for straight acceleration too, as proven with datalogging of the shifts by Gernby.

But as far as the mods go- Intake and exhaust even on an IS350 will only add 12-17 horsepower, depending if you skip the cats or not. That's a pretty small difference in power.

Certainly small enough that the difference in wheels/tires (size-wise for gearing), weight of vehicles (fuel, what's in the trunk, different wheel/tire weights, etc...), and if using manual mode differences in how well you each shift, can make considerably more difference than the tiny HP changes from intake/exhaust.

what type of exhaust did he have? u said it was a full exhaust. Also what kinda wheels did he have? did u weigh the wheels? His body kit could also be a factor, bad air resistance. Did u check what level fuel each of u had?

Air filter on our cars do nothing,

I can tell u this, on a highway ive raced w/ other IS's and i can gain on them pretty easily. So if u do mod correctly u can get some gains. Weight is the most important factor.

Next time both of you race with auto, maybe you're better than him in shifting, and see the difference.

PLUS, you told me you will show me pictures of his car, I'm curious, hope it's not ugly.

in a drag race a auto will always shift faster than a carbon based lifeform, take a look at NHRA/IHRA/bracket racing, the serious ppl all have autos, standard is more for the twistes/SCCA/showing off.

Wait, so power mode gives slower acceleration than normal? Is that true?

Power mode doesnt add anything in a drag race, but I doubt its slower. It just makes the car shift more aggressively

As far as "Manual" shifting.
1) These cars are Auto. You are not doing anything with the paddles other than slowing the car down.

2) THe paddle shifters seem to shift the car slower IMO.

3) as far as the 18s are concerned.... the stockers are 28lbs as well.
