Default Help me with this ('06 vs. '08 power and gas mileage)

I will try to make it fast.

First post, by myself. Love my Lexus. Anyway. Had a 08 250, sold it. Hated my new car. This is a daily driver to keep the miles off my truck.

Now, Lexus IS250 (08) averaged about 21 mpg in my highway/city driving.

I sold my new car and wanted to go back to a IS250 or IS350. I have a good friend that has a 06 250 and I drove it and it had MORE POWER than my 08, it was noticeable. Now this person also was getting 25 MPG on the average with close to the same driving conditions.

My thoughts, "your lying about your MPG" Though the there car felt faster, it made no sense.

Long story short. Wanted another 250 or 350. Found a 250 Red/sport/with factory 18's owned by a older couple I just could not pass up. Tried once again to buy a 350, but the stars never lined up.

It is a 06 and it is getting a average of 25 MPG. Driving is "briskly"!!!!

WHY WILL THE 07 OR THE 08 NOT DO THIS, and I can tell you from a substantial amount of driving this car is FASTER than my 08. I have a good friend with a 350 and it is FASTER but not by much. I just seems crazy. Also look at this below review and click on "fuel economy" and tell me why the 06 gets so much better fuel mileage?
I am guessing it must have been EPA changes to the fuel curve. I would love ot know what changed to make it more "sluggish" and worse MPG?

Anyway very happy with the 06, much happier than the 08!!!! It is a better, more responsive car.

Thanks

To me anytime you get a new car, you gotta let it settle in. Just give it some time, and you'll be happy with it. I had the same issue when I first bought my car last June, and after a thousand miles, I notice I was getting better gas mileage. Anyways have fun with your new ride!!

It is probably that you did not break in the engine or that it is all in your head or you should have reset the ecu.

There is 0 difference in the engine, power, transmission, or mileage from 06 to 08 on the IS250. They are mechanically identical in those regards.

There is a HUGE difference in power between a 250 and 350 however. 50% more power, and very significantly faster 0-60 and in the 1/4 mile. (by a matter of about 30% faster 0-60 for example)

As to mileage, I do better than 21 in my IS350 (22 city and 28 highway under normal driving, you can do slightly better than either if you really baby it).

The posted mpg difference from the EPA is, indeed, the fact that their testing criteria changed drastically.

As noted from one car to the next you may notice some difference based on the way the ECU has learned the drivers driving style- resetting the ECU can fix this (disconnect the battery for a bit) by resetting the learning info.

It's also possible, even on the most reliable brand in the world, to get a flaky car that never ran correctly, which your first car might have been an example of.
