Hey all,
I live in southern California and occasionally (perhaps 2 to 4 times during the winter season) drive up my local mountains to do some snowboarding. Although I've seen several threads here that recommend picking up a dedicated set of snow tires for winter duty or renting a car, I'd prefer to drive the IS.
With this in mind, I'm interested in picking some snow cables. Specifically, I'm looking into the SCC Super Z6 snow cables which are supposedly designed for vehicles with limited operating clearance. I'm considering this set since I have the X-Package on my IS (running 255/40/18 in the rear). Does anyone have any experience with these set? If so, please share. Thanks!

Ok, I took the dive and picked up these set of chains. I went ahead and installed them to ensure fit. They fit fine although I'm concerned about the clearance. Check out the pics below and let me know what you guys think.

Is that too close to the wheel well?

Is that too close to the suspension compenents or hose (brake line?)?

I was up at big bear with the GS and saw an IS and mustang and 240sx with the chains in the front...and chains werent even required!
back on topic, I have about the same clearance as you and i just went ahead and got the cables from walmart for 30 bucks. clears fine except for the ends that stick out but i ziptie those so nothing sticks out.
it was a pain for me to put on chains in 25 degrees so now when i go up to the snow, i carry a small jack, not the scissor jack that comes stock but a small jack. jack up, take off, put on chains, put back on. takes like 5 minutes a side. and much easier

Thanks for response!
And yes, during my test fit, I resorted to jacking up the car in order to get my arms inside the wheel well. I used the stock, scissor-type jack and with just a few turns had enough clearance to fit my arms. I could only imagine the added pain doing this in 25-degree weather (or worse).
I'll be headed to Mammoth tonight, so I hope all goes well.

Got back from Mammoth yesterday... Unfortunately, as far as using the snow cables over the past weekend, I have nothing to report since I didn't need to use them.

i wannna get the autosocks cause they're suppose to work pretty well but only take a fraction of the time it takes to put chains on. and who wants to be in the freezing snow for 30 mins to put chains on.
but they don't make autosocks for our wide tires/i'm too lazy to convert the dimensions

im new to socal and the whole tire chain rules. I have an IS250 AWD does CHP require chains for AWD? I never had any issues back east in PA or mountains in vermont.
