Default Getting another IS250 for wife - is this a good deal?

Hi all,
I have a IS250 6MT, but wife is planning on leasing a 09 IS250 AWD..We got quotes from two different dealers, one in Queens area NY and the other in northern NJ.

Trade in value for her 2004 VW Jetta is $4000.

NY dealer offer:
IS250 AWD Base - Down pay of $4000 (trade value), $349/month, 12k/yr

NJ dealer offer:
IS250 AWD - luxury pkg (HID, ventilated seats, adaptive lighting, spoiler)
Down pay of $5,100 (trade value + $1,100), $379/month, 12k/yr

We are still shopping around but I wanted to get your expert opinions on the deals. Thanks in advance for your help.

Youre gonna trade a car in on a lease? why? If your gonna lease just keep your ride or sell it and keep the money in savings. you really shouldnt be putting any money on a lease since the payments should already be lower than owning outright.

You can definately get more than $4k for a 2004 jetta. As long as the body isnt trashed and the mileage isnt insanely high.

i think NJ offer is way too expensive. five thousand dollars is too expensive for a down payment.

Sounds a little rich... And I would not trade in a car that I owe nothing on in order to slap a big down payment on a rental. Might be worth driving a little further north our south considering deals fluctuate state to state based on demand. Check out the dealer specials through their web-site in the surrounding states. I know lexus is running lease specials on the 2009 IS at $399 w/$0 down and 10k mi per yr. albeit that is not on AWD, but I am sure in today's environment you can negotiate an AWD close to that with very little down on say a left over 2008. Then sell your other car for $7k and invest the money in a high rate CD.

Ouch you must be taking a beating! But you have a good point although paymenst will still be north of a leased vehicle even at 60 mo. How many miles on your car?

I got $6000 on a trade in for a 2001 Jetta GLS with 75k miles last year. Tell them to pound sand on their trade in offer. If you use the Jetta as a down payment on the lease, you will not have any equity at the end of lease. I understand pros and cons of leasing but I believe that is one of the bigger down sides of leasing. But it depends on how your are going to use the 250.

Go ahead and buy a new one and apply your Jetta sale as a down payment.

The down side of a large down-payment on a lease is that if something happens to the car, you're out that money. It's better to pay as you go.
