what did you have to tell the dealer to convince them to change the transmission

wouldnt there still be grinding and noise issues? its not like they gave you an aftermarket clutch. its still the same clutch that is installed on all of our manual is's.

it sounds like crappy synchros to me. If it only happens in certain gears, it's probably the synchros.

just keep fighting with the dealer esp if the car is under warranty or take it to a different dealer see what happens

The "real" clutch point for my IS250M is about an inch from all the way down. While I never push that far to shift, I notice that on a flat surface, lifting an inch in first gear will cause the car to move. That means that if you shift anywhere above that, you're riding/burning your clutch.

I have the F-Sport short shifter kit. It made it smoother. MT-90 made it even better. These solved all my problems in 1st and 2nd gear. I haven't tried the F-Sport Clutch yet. Waiting for my current clutch to die first.

Interesting Lexus replaced an entire transmission for what sounds like a bad synchronizer... Did the SA provide you with any details regarding the nature of the problem? I am guessing not, they probably did not even bother dropping the transmission to open it up. Although not the most cost efficient way to repair it, it was probably easier for the dealer to file a warranty claim. The solution will certainly address a bad synchro but the design will remain the same.
