2008 IS350 Engine Whining Noise
Hello All,
I have a 2008 IS350 with 9k miles. I just noticed this morning a whining noise in the engine. It almost sounds like a sewing machine and increases and decreases with the RPM. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

^ Haha nice.
Seriously though OP, do you have something plugged into your Aux jack (stereo) and have your system on and volume up, but don't have the device playing?
(meaning: do you have an iPod plugged into the aux and have your stereo's power on, but not playing the iPod?)
That will do it.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. No I have removed everything (iPod...) and turned everything off so it is not feedback through the Audio system. I had the ticking sound before but this truly sounds like feedback through a audio system but is coming from under the hood. I opened the hood in the garage this morning, turned off the a/c, audio... then had the wife slowly give it a little gas and with the increase of the engine the whining would increase.

The ticking noise is your fuel injection system and it's perfectly normal. The whining noise that correlates with the RPM seems to be noise coming from the timing belt. I have an 09 with 9k miles and the dealer told me the timing belt came loose because I rev my engine too high. I really doubt it. Told me the mechanic reapplied the correct tension on the timing belt and corrected it. However, the noise is still there! Not as loud as before, but it's still there. I was driving a loaner 09 IS250 and it made a very similar noise. I assume it's just part of the "charm" that is a lexus isx50.
BTW, the noise doesn't change due to the core temp of the engine, still ***********g annoying.

Just been thinking of posting this exact thread the other day!!
Same here on My 08 350, mainly when the engine is colder... but yea I get this kinda weird whine that follows the RPMs.....
I have noticed it before at times, but lately the weather has been warmer and ive had the heat off and windows cracked..
So this is normal?? or not?
