Why would you put the wrong size tire on the car? OEM is 255/40/18. You said you want your speedo to be correct, well, putting a narrower tire with the same aspect ratio will definitely skew your speedo readings and alter your geometry. Doesn't make any sense at all.

Put a 265-35-18 not a 255-35-18, the s-drive doesn't comes in that size. I would find another tire that is the 255-40-18, there are tons to choose from depending on your $.
BTW, the S-drive is an excellent tire, and there is quite a bit of mark up on them, you should be able to talk Dis. Tire down a bit. Check out their wholesale website for prices.

The S.Drive is not available in a 255/40R18 only 255/35R18 or 245/40R18.
Since 245/40R18 is closer in overall diameter to the 255/40R18 I would suggest that size over the 255/35R18 if he really wants the S.Drive . BTW read all my posts on this thread before criticizing

The stock tires on my IS 350 are 225/40/18 (front) and 255/40/18 (rear). I am considering the 35 ratio instead of the stock 40 ratio. Other than lowering the car ~0.5" (actually should improve handing), are there other side affects or concerns with the lower tires? Note that the F-Sport lowering springs drop the car an inch.
I am assuming the look of the car will not change much from the side, and hope the tires/wheels will not look too small in the wheel wells.

HTRZIII are excellent tires. I have had them for about 11 mos now. I have put about 12k on these tires so far. Roid noise is quiet and grip is excellent. Highly recommended for the price also. Great Value.

Putting a lower profile tire on there will cause your speedometer to read higher than you are actually going and will cause you to rack up mileage quicker than you normally would.

So do 265/35/18s work on stock rear wheels? Would let us squeeze in to these: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes
And the 35 on the 265 would be closer in height to the 40 on a 255.
265 x .35 = 92.75
255 x .40 = 102
Only lowers the car 9.25 mm.
Is there a way to reset the speedo to account for a shorter tire?
