Default XM/Sirus Radio start up

Sorry for not using the search function but i think my question is specific.

I want to sign up for Sirus/XM radio. MY 07 is250 has the hook up but I never turned it on.

My question is, are these two company's the same now? If I sign up for one I get all channels for both? Also, when I sign up, do I have to switch something on in my car to get the SAT radio working?

Thanks guys, and if anyone knows any speacial promotions or codes that would be VERY helpful.

siirus and xm while are now "one" company, you have to pay extra to get all the channels available on both. both of them have most of the channels, but for example sirius has a lot of entertainment channels and Xm has a lot of sports channels. i think if you got the dealer installed sat radio its Xm, though you can install either one aftermarket. either way you need to call and get your radio subscription activated

Hit the "SAT" button on your radio. If it does not go to satellite radio, there will only be ads to call and sign up, then you need to get the XM reciever.

Are you sure? Just because your radio has the "SAT" button and your roof has the sharkfin does not mean you "have the hook up". You also need one of these: http://www.sewellpartsonline.com/par...id=90062&all=Y It's a dealer (or DIY) installed accessory; hard to believe you'd have purchased one without activating the service.

Thanks for the input. I was told that I have the proper equipment to get XM/Sirus sat. I guess I will have to dig a little deeper and find out.
I purchased my IS and was told I had free service for 3 months but never go around to it. Didnt really matter then, but I like alot of the channels they have now.

If you have the preview channel when you hit SAT, then you have XM installed.. Siruis and XM merged many of their channels, so almost all the music channels are the exact same. You now have the option of puchasing Sirius's "best of channels" like Howard Stern and Playboy channel NFL, etc.. its additional $4.00 per month, and they just add channels to your existing XM radio.

I have factory XM, and I always wanted Sirius just for Stern, so when they made this available on XM I was so excited!

There is a DIY posting on here with pretty good intstructions, it takes abour 2 hours or so. If you have the sharkfin on top, you already have the XM antenna and you'll just need the receiver, I believe its around $279, then you have to either have the dealer install it for $400 or DIY and take out a few panels in the trunk and plug it in (with the harness included), plug in the antenna wire which will be just sitting back there ready to be plugged in and your done. Its pretty easy.

or get the sirius sc-c1 universal sat radio tuner. get a DEI toy-sc1 toyota/lexus/scion interface. and if you want to a vaistech sat radio antenna to plug into the stock location. if you skip the vaistech antenna and use the one that comes with the kit the parts will run around 160 or so plus installation if you have someone do it. with the vaistech antenna i think it runs around 210 or so for parts.
