Default Engine start button....safety?

While driving 2-5 mph...my friend pressed the start button and the engine turned off. I was like WTF?! I was mad at my friend of course but I expected there would be some sort of safety installed that would prevent an accidental press of the button during Drive. Maybe at higher speeds?

i think it's because of some safety thing where in a emergency you need to stop your engine even though it's still moving, just like a car that uses a key

But with a key, you need to twist back, a movement that can't be done by accident. Whereas this push button start seems really easy to press by accident, and especially scary if going at say...freeway speeds.

at freeway speed you have to hold the button for more than 5secs. to turn off the car..

you just lose power and lose power steering. press the break and press the button again and the car will come back to life.

If you turn off the engine while rolling, won't the steering lock? If not, what system is in place that prevents it?
