So this is the situation....

I'm purchasing a used 07 IS 250 AWD this week with just below 20k miles it is coming with the Certified Lexus "bumper to bumper" warranty good for 3 years 100k miles. Im doing the 5 year financing on this car...

My questions is do you think it's worth it for me to get the Lexus Certified warranty extended to 5 years 120k miles? If so I was wondering what the going rate was for this im sure dealerships can do a lot with the price of this anyone know what I should expect to pay for it? Has anyone purchased it before? The dealership told me I had to do it before I drive the car off lot when I pick it up...

The dealer lies to you.

The extended warranty is available anytime while the car is still under factory warranty (which is 4 yrs/50k miles). If your car is an 07 with 20k miles you still have quite a while to buy the extended warranty.

The longest one I was aware of was 7yr/100k miles though-

Note you can get them WAY cheaper than listed there- do a search there's a couple dealers who sell em to anyone for a ton less money. (Toby Rivers and Troy Deitrich come to mind)

I suppose it's possible the dealer is offering some -other- non-Lexus extended warranty that goes to 120k, and is conditional on purchase before you pick it up.

 

The dealer lied to you. I bought my IS through a non-Lexus dealership and it still had the factory warranty. I bought the Lexus 4 Year Platinum extended warranty about 1,000 miles before the factory warranty expired. If you buy an extended warranty from another company other than Lexus then there could be issues with either what is and what isn't covered along with reimbursement.
