This is probably the relevant law-
http://leg1.state.va.us/000/cod/46.2-1020.HTM

It suggests that blue lights aren't allowed.

I'm not a lawyer however

And if you put LEDs in for DRLs you'll no longer have useful highbeam headlights, since it's the same bulb.

Great link, Kurtz. However, with all the people running HID kits in halogen housings on like Tacomas and stuff, I wonder how strictly they enforce these rules

Did you use vled module? I installed the vled with the module and my drls did not turn on but the high beams worked. Does it only work on auto bc I was in a garage and for got to see if it worked outside in auto. All the other modes did not work for drls to turn on.

because the DRL is also the high beam, under VA law, it must be DOT and SAE approved.

i don't think blue LED DRLs qualify. If you look at the link below, it specifically lists the sylvannia cool blues to be the only ones that are DOT certified (though i think PIAA has some too)

Why not use the DRL module with a white led bulb...looks cleaner and legal during the day...but you will lose your high beam function

here is the same set up on my car

I just wish there was a way to kick the drl to the fog light and maintain the high beam function!

Then you'd lose your fog lights if you put in LEDs :P

I just had the dealer turn off the DRLs, solves the "they look like crap" problem without impacting the high beams at all.

Do the drl light only turn on on auto mode?

The DRL function stays on while the headlamp position is set to either off/or parking light mode. (position 1) Shuts off when placed in the headlamp "on" position. I personally never use the auto function so I dont know.

I'm just really confused bc when I put the LEDs with the module it didn't work. Only the high beams worked but the drl lights didn't turn on

I just ordered the P-n-P Daytime Running light kit which includes modules and V-Leds last night. It sounds like you've lost the function of the DRLs which doesn't seem right. I would follow up with V-Leds.

This is the product info. off there site.
"Having issues with your LED Daytime Running Light conversion? This is your solution! Easy plug n' play inline module from V-LEDS. This will provide full power to the LED bulb when installing in a low voltage DRL system. Works with all vehicles using 9005 bulb for DRL/High Beam. Not for use with standard bulbs."

Anything blue mimics police vehicles...don't do it, not worth it! Anything other than white and/or yellow from the front is ILLEGAL! I've seen RED & GREEN lights, but guarantee you'll get pulled too! It looks too eye catching! FYI...Your rear lights need to be either red or yellow signals. For DRL's though...brand wise, I think there are several companies out there now.

-VLEDS; most go with these
-PIAA; I enjoy the color of these...I am currently running the Tera Bulbs (they have white or blue)
-ORACLE; haven't heard good reviews on some people's fitment (probably installation issue), but color wise...these are good too!
*there are others but I chose PIAA, I like the purple/white tinge to it...

GL on modding!

They are on anytime the headlights are not--off, parking lites or auto (when headlights aren't on).
