New to CL and Mod Questions
Hello,
My first post to the community! Wanted to give a little background
I recently purchased a 2008 IS250 AWD last August. It is my first Lexus and new car. I'm in love with it! The car is fantastic. Previously, I didn't enjoy driving but when I got my Lexus, ALL that changed! The car is very comfortable, especially on long drives. I visit my girlfriend about once a month and the drive is three hours. In my previous cars at the end of this drive I had terrible driver's fatigue: my legs were numb, my back ached and the pinched nerve in my lower back was irritated. Not with my IS! I could go for another 3 hours!
Anyways, since this is my car I plan to give a bit of my own personality into the appearance, I have come for advice and have some high level questions. I am new to modding (is this the right term?) vehicles in general and am asking the community for help in my education I plan to start small with getting new rims.
1.) How does modding affect the warranty of your car? I know this a general question but I'm interested in learning all I can.
2.) For rims, what should I know about them? What is a good rim and a bad rim? What brands should I look into? Should I order from the internet or try to find a local shop? Can dealerships install my rims (I realize this may depend on the dealership, but am looking for a general answer)? Oh, I live in NY and as such, have to drive through snow (which is why I purchased the AWD instead of the IS350).
I think that is a good amount of information to start off my first post
Thanks!
James

Where in NY are you im in Buffalo?
It all depends with your warranty most mechanical things do void it. (Since im in NY and drive in snow I dont want to lower my car but I do have 20" rims most people on here will convince you to lower the car because it does look better I just cant justify it in my area.)
Rims are all a matter of style and all the members on here show the wide variety of that very well. For it to be worth it assuming you have 17" rims on your AWD I would either go 19" or 20" (most people dislike 20's on this site but they are more my style I dont use the car to go fast) Check wheel sites and find out what you like and do some searches on here for the wheel thread and look at other members rides.

Thanks for the responses
I wasn't sure if there was any important features or considerations I had to be concerned about. For example, when building a computer the brand and specs can be very very important to what you'll get in the end
I took a look at that thread you linked and it is awesome. I saw quite a few rims that I like there. I'll continue to check it out. Oh, I live in Binghamton, so it is quite a long ways away from ya.

welcome to CL...
some highly regarded wheel brands are Volks (made by Rays Engineering), BBS, Work, HRE, AME. They're generally forged or custom multi-piece wheels made to order. High on the bling/street cred factor. But those are fairly pricey in general and if you buy new, they tend to have long wait/delivery times. Look at the wheels threads for ideas and styles you like, and check out the used wheels for sale in the Wheels Classified forum for some occasional deals.
The more affordable wheels are brands like Enkei, Konig, MRR, Rota, Linea Corse... these are generally cast wheels and many offer similar styles to the high-end stuff, at a much more attainable price. For some there's a stigma that comes with that, i.e. why would you rock knockoffs on a Lexus, or why cheap out on a classy car etc. Plenty of people on here do it though. So that's a decision you'll have to make on your own.
