Default help!!!! panting headlights but paint not sticking

like the title says... everything went good until i got to the painting part which i thaught would go by easy.... anyways when i sprayed the housing the paint is not sticking. at first i just washed it ... after that didnt work i sanded it down with 600 grit paper... that didnt work... im using dupicolor car paint...

should i be using a specific paint? what should i do? is it maybe the cold outside?

any help thanks guys...

when you are painting, make sure you are following the specific directions on the spray paint can. also, make sure you are not getting too close to the headlights. you can't spray things and expect them to stick if you are doing it in frigid temperatures.

If its cold then that has alot to do with it. Also spray LIGHT multiple coats and it should stick.

After sanding did you wipe down the dust with a wet MF?

1st off if you didn't know how to paint you shouldn't have done it!

you sand with 600 gritz.. you gotta finish with 2000 gritz or else the surface isnt going to be smooth. if the weather is cold the paint takes longer to dry and won't adhere as well. you need to do LIGHT coatings and hold the spray can at least 6 inches awayy from what your painting. you need to/should give it at least 15 mins or so for each coating before you LIGHTLY spray again

no offense but take your time on this cause it isn't a honda. you don't want a half assed job on these expensive headlights

i agree about the 600 grit... that's a bit of a rough surface. primer won't hurt in the prep process either... it will actually help the paint stick better... G/L

^Agree.. I think primer is very important in the process. Paint atleast 3 to 5 coats and do it where its warm, like the garage!! GL

What do you mean by that? So your saying Honda's dont have expensive headlights? You THINK they are cheap and I KNOW there not. Oem headlights are pricey and other headlights such as JDM AP2 Headlights for for $1400.....

my jdm AP2 headlights were not $1400. they list at around $550 each, so ~$1100.

I think what he meant was that the lexus oem headlights were more expensive than others like hondas. our oem headlight is around $1000 each.

yes yes something like that. also into the point where these cars are more expensive then hondas you don't want a half assed job. i have nothing against honda either but just the fact that i see too many crapped out looking hondas on the streets( i'm not gonna use the term "rice" cause its used incorrectly nowadays). hell any cosmetic mods is RICE so then most of us are RICE. but anywayyy im just saying if you wanna do something then do it right!

btw arch95leo the outcome on the lights looks good!
