Playing a DVD

Well, I guess there's only one way to find out - tonight I'll follow my dealer's advice and "simply insert a DVD into the CD changer." Let the chips fall where they may! I'll keep you all posted.
Note: My NAV manual makes no mention that a ML system is required, only that the player will accept CD's, MP3, Video CD's and DVD's. We'll see.

NJMCTSV - Just tried on my '09 IS350 w/nav and my unit will not read the DVD disc. I've tried with all configurations (parking brake on, off - power on, car running, ect). Most IS X50 in this area are ordered without ML.

I know there is a DVD disk, it's just that I do not (was not given) a physical disk when I purchased the car. I was told it was used to load the data, then removed. SHould I have been given a physical disk? My CTS-V has a DVD based Nav system, but the Nav DVD must be in in order to operate. If I remove the Nav DVD I can insert and view movie DVD's.
Also, I'm of the impression that there is no Mark Levinson option on the '09 IS's. AT least I didn't see it on the options sheet.

ML is probably not "built" for your region. It can be special ordered though

NJMCTSV, the Navi DVD drive (hidden behind the clock panel) and the CD changer (the one you see) are two separate drives. You cannot use the Navi DVD drive to play movie DVD's. If you have Mark Levinson, you get a DVD changer in place of the CD changer.

^^ It is quite possible to swap the CD changer with a DVD one in order to watch movies on your navigation screen. However, you won't get 5.1 and DTS decoding because the cars without ML don't come with the center speaker and the amp is different also.

What would it take to put in the ML DVD player? You would still be able to listen, just not in surround sound, correct?

You can buy NavTool to add composite inputs for the nav screen. Check the vendor forums for that. You can plug in a device (DVD/Game/iPod with video out cables) with composite output to the NavTool. But I think the audio is only stereo.
