Default So I think my trunk broke....

Well today after practice I tried to open my trunk and it didnt open. I walked up to it and push the button near the license plate and nothing happened. I also tried to press the button on the key and the button inside the car and still no luck. The only way I got it to open was to get the spare key and open it the "emergency way". Anyone else ever have this problem? It'll suck if i have to put out money for repairs since I was planning to buy coilovers next week.

There is a button in the glove box that's used for valet parking. It shuts off the trunk release button and the key fob. Just make sure that it's not on and check your manual if you can't find it.

Right when i got the car, the vallet switch was on and i couldn't open the trunk, i was pretty pissed lol, the manual ended up telling me that i was a dummy and need to check the glove.

if it's not the valet switch...then its electrical.

in order for the trunk to open electronically, the trunk "brain" has to get a signal from all 4 doors stating its locked or unlocked. its really rare and strange but it does happen.

on my cousin's is250...his trunk did the exact same thing. it took a lexus master tech to find the solution. he ran a test and found out the rear driver door's "brain/chip" was not sending any signals showing it was locked/unlocked even though the actual door motor locked/unlocked...which is why NO ONE expected it to be a door issue.

weird huh? haha...btw...my cousin's car was in the shop for almost 2 weeks!

I don't get it. I can open my trunk, whether the doors are locked or unlocked, as long as I have the key in my pocket.

its part of the alarm supposedly...

whenever you lock your doors, the trunk is also "secured"

the trunk can't "secure' itself unless it gets the signal from the doors telling it so...

basically the problem is...the trunk is stuck in "waiting mode" from the doors to tell it to lock or not. so when its stuck...the remote or electronic button will not work but you can still open it manually with the key.

its hard to explain and from the what tech said...it was VERY VERY rare...probably less than 10 cases in the US!

Sounds to me like the tech was talking out his a$$. you can't open the trunk without the key even if the doors are unlocked and you can open the trunk with the key even if the doors are locked.

Not to bump a "retired" thread, but I was having this problem for the past two days and was dreading a discussion with the service department re: "something electrical"... Ran a quick search and found the advice to "check the valet switch", which I must have inadvertently pressed stuffing some things into my glovebox. Another headache resolved by CL .
