Wow, I missed this one last week. There's nothing wrong with going with vinyl, and it has nothing to do with being 'cheap' or not - I don't have a single "replica" or "imitation" part on my car. I've seen plenty of bad paint jobs that wouldn't make an orange jealous, so just because you get it painted doesn't mean squat. If you get it done by a quality installer who uses quality product, the results will be great, and you'll always have the option of peeling it off. The shop I used is well known for their vinyl work (several cars at SEMA and what not), and used a single sheet for the entire roof. I would NEVER have a two-piece with any seams visible.

^This is my roof and roof spoiler. The roof spoiler is painted black, and the roof is vinyl. BOTH have a high gloss, and I can't tell you how many people are AMAZED when I tell them it's vinyl on my roof and and not paint. The vinyl shines just as much as the paint does.
This one is from before I got the side rails done, but notice that the gloss from the rear windshield to the vinyl top is indistinguishable - my vinyl really shines:

It's also been pretty durable. The vinyl on my roof is almost two years old, and has withstood acorns, bird crap, tree sap, and road debris better than I could have ever imagined. I have to admit that I originally went with vinyl because I wasn't sure how it would look, and didn't want to "make the leap" by painting. But when it was done it came out so well (and has lasted so long) that I just left it on. When it craps out, I'll probably paint it, but like the old saying says, "If it aint broke don't fix it."
