New Cars and Braking Hard/Slamming the brakes
Hey guys,
I recently got a 2009 Lexus IS 250 last month and had no problem with the car so far. However, today as I was driving on the road at about 50-60MPH, because the road was very curvy and hard to see what is coming up I did not see the long line of cars waiting at the light and had to slam the brakes to avoid rear ending the car in front of me. I heard the tires screeching a bit and felt the ABS go off because I was traveling fast and abruptly stopping. So far I have a little over 750 miles on the car.
My question is, does hard braking/slamming on the brakes during the early stages/break-in period of the car damage the brake lines, brake pads, tires, or any other part of the car? I know that you aren't supposed to brake hard during like the first 450 or so miles of the car according to the manual but because I do not have much more miles that that, could braking hard done any type of damage or cause damage that will arise later in my cars life?
- I appreciate any feedback. Thanks

No you shouldnt have any problems at all. I also try that before to test out my brakes when i first got it. I was going about 60 mph and slammed the brakes and it braked just fine as my steerwheelings were so straight.

i found this part the most interesting in your post... so~ i gotta ask... driving so fast on a "very curvy and hard to see" road, you looking to get a Darwin Award or something?

ohh i forgot to add that the speed limit is 55 mph. So I was basically going speed limit on a curvy road. I might have exaggerated the "very" but it is curvy enough to not be able to see 50 ft. in front of the car at a certain bend in the road.

I think the point is, if you can't see 50 ft ahead of you, you shouldn't be going faster than you can brake and stop if there's a chance there's a stopped car ahead. Don't go charging blindly around corners if you want to keep the nice car nice.
