Where I go to school there are a lot of potholes and bad roads so I must have hit a huge hole to get this bubble. I talked to an audi mechanic at a local audi service center and he said that the tire will burst if you hit another one but I not sure if that is true. I called a Lexus dealer and the service rep said that you can change two tires without significantly messing up the center differential. Is that true or is it necessary to change all four tires?
I have about 18500 miles on the car running on the stock dunlops, which are absolutely terrible and I know that my alignment must be slight off. I still have to do the power steering column recall and fuel lines. They do the alignment for the steering recall for a fact. Advice/Recommendations?

You can replace just 2 tires and it will be fine. I would see what is left on your OEM tires. You may not have much life left on those tires. I had an AWD Audi and had one tire almost blow due to bad camber and I took the full size spare out of the trunk and slapped it on and threw the bad tire in the trunk
Never had one problem and drove the car for some time that way until I turned in the lease.
If you go wider then I would replace all 4 tires. Try Tire Rack or Discount tire.

depends on the tire wear. you can even replace one tire if others are relatively new. after 18k miles your tires should be pretty bold so I'd get rid of all four of them and buy some performance rubber
if you are lucky you can even sell them
if you are lucky you can even sell them

Do you really need to replace all 4 tires?
I cracked my rims before and I had to use 1 OEM tire and wheel with 3 aftermarket and when I got my car serviced no one brought anything up with me... they even rotated my wheels lol -_-

I don't think you need to replace all 4, just 2 on the same axle as others have said.
Having said that, I hit a pot hole with 22K on my car and decided I was sick of the OEM tires (RE92) for a variety of reasons and the fact they probably only had another 5K tops left in them put on four new tires.
I went with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and I upsized (not wider like you mentioned, but taller) to 225/50 R17 and am extremely happy. Quieter, smooth and much improved handling esp in rain.
PS I did do the heat gun thing in one spot in each wheel well to ensure clearance, and it worked like a charm.

soo, i got all four replaced at pepboys for $441 including mounting, balancing, alignment, and four new tires. they only ones they had were Hankook Ventus V4 ES 91W. initially the put on 245/45/17 but then i noticed the tires bulged off the rims and told them that the original ones were 225. amateurs. so far they are better than the stock dunlops 5000's which were terrible. any opinions on these tires??

haha, nice RS4, that's a sweet car!
i had a bubble on one of my tires too, and at the time, i didn't know it was pretty dangerous, so i drove it around through the entire winter, didn't have a problem(i woudln't chance it if i had known it's really dangerous lol), so this winter before putting them on, i just replaced only the one, considering my other 3 are in pretty good shape, lots of treads left.
