Default Questions about buying Certified Pre-Owned

So I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on buying a 06/07 IS 250 / 350 since Lexus has a good deal of 2.9% financing. I just had a few questions.

1.Do you think if you get the 2.9% financing you can still haggle with the price? The one I've found is $26k and I'm wondering if I can get it down to $24k.

2.The CPO car that I found that I liked is in another state. Would it be dumb to buy one without having driven it if it was CPO? Or are Lexus dealerships connected and they can send cars back and forth?

Thanks!

In this economy the price can always be haggled, just depends how much patience you have. You should ask your dealer about the second question.

Being that it is a used vehicle, I would definitely take a look at the car first. I would never buy a used vehicle without test driving it first because there could be so many minor issues that photos will not show. Although...Lexus' CPO vehicles endure a pretty strict guideline in order to be considered a CPO such as number of miles driven, exterior and interior conditions, etc. With that being said, if I would ever take a chance on a used vehicle without seeing it first, it would be a Lexus. Their CPOs are amazing and you shouldnt have any issues with the car. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I would check the car in person first.

My car is a CPO and the interior was pretty top notch, but the front paint job was rock chipped ruined. I was at the dealer last week and looked their CPO in the show room... you would appalled by some the car's interior condition, even the ones on the show room, black smudges on the head rest and stuff... its like they didn't even clean them.

Never buy a used car without seeing / driving it first.

Everything is negotiable.

Agreed, only way to go. Lexus CPO program is good.

I bought a 2006 IS 350 CPO in May and love every mile in it. The only problem I had was that the dealership was in Dallas, and I live in Houston. The dealerships were not in a partnership, so they could trade cars like new models. The four hour drive was worth every penny though. And yes, I would test drive any used car first, no matter the make or model.

My car was sold as CPO also, but none the less it had minor scratches in interior (even cigarette burns near the window) and a few minor scratches in exterior. Maybe some damage was done during shipment overseas but definitely not the interior.

If you don't feel bad about spendind extra 200$, order an inspection by Carchex or some other similar company if you don't want to go to another state.

1. Of course--but don't talk about the financing until you have finalized the price. You should see if you can go to a credit union, or lendingtree.com and get your own financing. Tell them you are paying cash, or that you have your own financing. They'll try to push you to their financing, and you tell them--"I'm not discussing financing arrangements until I have an acceptable price on a car". Once you have that price, then discuss financing terms.

2. I would DEFINITELY test drive. It's used--even though it's CPO, it's not going to be perfect. You need to see it and drive it.
