I don't believe it to be Lexus problem but one that affects all new vehicles with AC. I've noticed the "gym sock" smell in every new car that came w/ the new refridgerant AC systems. For whatever reason the new AC systems have this problem. Every newer car I have purchased, rented, or borrowed had this problem with one exception, my 02 Volvo S60. It's obviously a problem w/o a solution.

I live in Colorado where it is extremely dry year round. We get very little moisture. Meaning any condensation left should evaporat into the ambient air as the air is extremely dry. I only notice the smell when I go from no AC to using AC and it only lasts a few minutes.

Here's a PDF TSB of what it looks like.
this guy is absolutely correct. theres a TSB for it. i believe your ac condenser should be the new one already cause you have an 08 model. i have an 07 and its the newly designed ac condenser. mostly 06 models get theres replaced. the real problem is the flapper(techs call it the little "meow") which melts and the hole closes which backs up the water causing the mold and foul smell and water back up which wets your carpets

Interesting... I have some tube near the front passenger wheel, and I also have some rubber tube near the transmission. But could not find any info about that on techdoc (install\remove, inspection).
