This has happened to one of my aunts in LA. She just purchased a brand new 06' Honda Civic. She was at the gas station and just finished pumping, when she started up the car, the car accelerated by itself and the ran took off accross the street and ran into a house. This all happened 6 in the morning and it was freaking scary for her and the people that has just woked up and getting ready for school and work.. It was kind of funny at first but damn it was scary that this happened to someone close to me.
This can happen to anyone and I dont considered this as a joke at all. I think everyone should just keep their mind open, even tho this may sound like joke.

I agree with you, but the chances are sooo unlikely that no one needs to worry about it at all. This is a joke, in this thread, several people already killed his credibility. There is one post for the ISX50, and the rest of them are for ES300's and ES350's. I don't believe this one bit.

It's probably one incident with ES350, words pass around and in the end someone hears IS350. It was the carpet that caused the gas pedal to stuck. If this was widespread issue you'd hear it in the news.

I somehow managed to move over to the shoulder without hitting any cars but the vehicle was still moving at 100+ mph. Finally my husband had to force the gear box to park and I applied the emergency parking brake before the vehicle finally started to slow down and eventually stopped near exit #389. My car has traveled for about 3.5 miles at over 100 mph and there were some very close calls where I could have hit vehicles at high speed seriously injuring someone and myself."

Amazing!!! 100+ mph on the shoulder, full brake force, husband shoves car into park, wife slams parking brake to the floor!!

LOL!! And she lived to tell about it?

Man, some of the stories people will tell to get out of liability. BTW, you'll find these stories for every make and model of car in existence. It's not a car problem, it's a driver problem.
The floor mat issue with Lexus has been documented and the car never actually accelerated, the throttle just got stuck.

Can't you push the start button and stop the cars?

To Ak-47, nope, I tried just for grins. Lexus already thought of that.

Although it doesn't seem likely, it is very odd that only the IS250 has it happen and not more IS350. However, I want to chime about when the Dodge neon came out, I got one and fortunately upon startup one day, the accelerator got stuck at WOT in the garage. Luckily, I had a manual and got it to the dealer. The clutch was trashed but it was a freak problem. I had another american car snap the throttle line.

I now know to not get first gen products and I'm really weary about american cars BUT I'll give this a shadow of a doubt. (I still think they moved the floormats) Maybe they washed it and left it to dry and it curled up. Dunno.

I do have a question for that person, it took the guy over 3 minutes (3 miles ~ 3 minutes + acceleration to 100+mph) @100mph to realize the car had acceleration problems? or as a previous poster mentioned, 3 miles of good shoulder?

I guess whats funny is that nobody in all those stories had the bright idea to put the car in neutral.

I worked for toyota when they had the computer issue with the Prius where if you hit the wrong combination of buttons the car would shut off spontaneously. But it was a long combination of buttons and it was repeatable. A month later, an ECU patch was released. This sounds more like a good reason to get out of a reckless driving by speed ticket!!

So why hasn't this guy reported this issue to the NTSB?

He secretly (and probably illegally) records is conversations with the tech, and all he does is just say "No--it can't be". That's his only evidence.

Jeez--he can't even spell "Brake" or "mat" (2 key parts of the condition). And he cant even use a picture of the IS's speedometer on his site.

The IS250 AWD has a wider transmission tunnel, so there is less clearance between it and the accelerator pedal than on the IS350 (and RWD IS250). If the floor mat is secured improperly, it seems logical that it would be more likely to bind in the smaller space.

I think this is a floormat issue as well. I remember when 60 Minutes hurt Audi's reputation back in the mid 80's with Unintentional Acceleration claims on the 5000 model.

After driving pretty much every Lexus built and other multiple cars the only time I thought there was "unintended acceleration" was when it was DRIVER error.
1. Floor mat
2. Something fell on the floor
3. I had on sandals or a loose shoe
4. The hooker didn't know when to stop
